Cleaning Intercooler on Wed

Featured Replies

Well i plan to clean the Intercooler and its piping on Tuesday for this i have some Carb cleaner

Was also wondering about the inlet that the egr connected to?

how hard is it to get this off and clean it?

Will i be able to do it?

any new gaskets required?

Also wondered about the Turbo i believe it suffering from sticking veins now and again?

Is there anyway i can 'clean' it without removal? an additive of some-sort? just an idea and clutching at straws really

I wanna clean my inlet too, but I'm unsure how to get it off, and whether it's easy enough to bother

all jokeing aside ive just bought some GUNK i think it is to clean the boost pipes before i fit the new FMIC as some of the old ones will still being used not sure what to use on the egr my self yet

On the EGR i would have thought carb cleaner is fine as its used to clean carbs......... just make sure it is all clean and dry.

*its on my list of things to clean ;) *

i dont run an egr any more....

all stainless piping from turbo to inlet

i already have carb cleaner going to clean all pipes and intercooler with it

just wondered about inlet and turbo

Same scenaro with the inlet...... as for Turbo i couldent comment........

When i took off my egr i cleaned it up, for all the gunk that will be on the pioes i wiuld let it dry and scrape it off. When its weT it seems to be worse. I put mine in a mild acid bath type thing at work.

what is meant by sticking veins? are these just sticking boost pipes? are there a combination of rubber and plastic boost pipes in the engine as im aware that the plastic ones wont stick.

also what causes sticking veins? same stuff that blocks the EGR? the oil vapour from the crank case combining with the exhaust gases?

thanks

I cleaned my manifold when I fitted my EGR delete pipe, its a super messy job - I went through 2 cans of Wyns carb cleaner from Halfrauds - the cr@p inside really is astonishing. Its relatively straight forward to remove the manifold think there was about 7 bolts holding it on, IIRC the trickiest part was the bolt on the underside of the EGR valve but you've already lost this.

Good tip from Pip_VRS above - I would of thought this would help before going crazy with the carb cleaner!

Good luck.
