WindScreen - chip to a crack

Featured Replies

Well just had Autoglass out to repair a chip which had two minor cracks running from it very close to the edge by the ticket holder.

Repair looked good until 2 mins after when the crack became 15cm+. A new windscreen is now required.

Got auto wipers etc, a little worried the car maybe damaged, still very new, less than 2.5K miles.

Any advice?

if theyre anything like my local autoglass theyll do a great job.

The only thing you should double check is the quality of the new screen. I had mine replaced a few moths back and the pilkington copies were just crap, loads of distortion in the glass that sent my eyes funny. Had two replacements before they gave up and ordered a dealer screen which is perfect.

Also obviously get them to check you car over before they start work to confirm youve no damamge to the bodywork in case they do any when changing the glass.

Thank you for the advice

I called my insurance company who have authorised autoglass to order and use a OEM windscreen. Will take a little longer to do but hopefully will be worth it.

Any recommendations on being fitted mobile (convienent) or at there workshop?

Well Autoglass turned up at work today and delivered a first class service.

I have checked the car over twice now and cannot fault it. The guy done a first class job.

He did say I had no glue along the bottom edge of the screen when he took it out and was surprised I hadn't heard any wind noise. I must admit it seems a little quieter but that maybe in my head.

Isn't there a guarantee that they replace the screen free if their repair fails?

yep, but not if it fails at the time of repair

He did warn me it my crack due to the placement of the chip being in a pressure point of the screen.

Only £70 excess for a replacement dealer screen all fitted. Could have been worse.
