Door Mirrors

Featured Replies

Is anyone (James?) able to confirm that the mirrors are actually folding because the 'build your car' mentions electrically adjustable, heated, auto dimming with memory function and boarding spots. Folding isn't mentioned?

Go to the online configurator. Click on the options there and you will find pictures to most and a description:

Electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors with auto dimming, memory function and boarding-spots. The door mirrors can be electrically adjusted or folded in when parked, to avoid any knocks of scrapes.

And you have to select that £0 option with the £500 seats which reads:

Electrically adjustable drivers seat with lumbar support and memory function. The electrically adjustable drivers seat with lumbar support allows you to easily find a safe and comfortable driving position, whilst the memory function ensures you can easily reset the drivers seat if someone else moves it.

I've just read the owner's manual regarding the electric seats and for me one of the interesting things are that you can save a specific seat and mirror setting to a specific key fob! Thus when you unlock the car with "your" key the seat will be set for you without you having to press the respective memory button! Perfect for two drivers!

Successfully added the Electric Drivers Seat and Folding Mirrors to my week 42 build - not bad considering I'm currently in Vermont and Farmers, my superdealer is in Leicester!

Not sure how you actually fold the mirrors, though.

I tried in vain today to find an Audi or VW owner's manual to find out as the Yeti manual online does not say as it is too old. Does the Superb have folding mirrors? I never checked it's manual though.

Ah! Page 78 of the Superb brochure! The standard mirror adjuster has an extra setting over and above L, R, O and Heating to which you turn it to fold them in - though only if the ignition is on and the car is moving at less than 15mph. Peculiar. And when all the windows are closed you can also fold them by holding the Unlock button (I'm quoting from the manual - see edit below) on the key fob for two seconds. So it seems they don't always fold every time you lock the car as some other makers' mirrors do.

Edit: I kept thinking about this: it makes no sense to hold the unlock button as the manual states as holding that for two seconds will open all the windows. The note says see button 3 on page 49 which low and behold is the Lock button! Now it makes sense. With all windows shut you lock the car and as you walk away you just keep holding the lock button and the mirrors will fold. Let's hope they fix this mistake when they cut and paste this section to the new Yeti brochure!

I could not see in the manual if they will unfold automatically when you unlock the car or if you have to do it yourself. I imagine the later because I remember seeing an Audi A8 recently driving in London with the mirrors folded blissfully unused by the regal Ascot-behatted lady driver chatting to her 3 (equally hatted) passengers.

We had a 2009 Golf Plus Tdi SE, and it came with electric folding mirrors , but NO electric seats. From memory we had an extra position on the mirror adjuster switch to fold them, don't know if there was any key setting for it, never tried!

No key setting on Golf to fold mirrors :S

Is it just me or has does anyone else think the A Pillar (passenger side) also creates a significant blind spot?

Yes indeed, And here's a warning to all new owners - be aware of this.

After stopping at a T junction waiting to turn right and looking carefully both ways, I turned right and after straightening out found myself following about five feet behind a car I had completely failed to see approaching from the left due to the blind spot caused the passenger side A pillar. I have never been closer to an accident in 50 years and 2,000,000 miles driving. Looking on the bright side, a near miss is the best way to learn about these sort of hazards and I don't find it a problem now I know to be extra careful looking left at T junctions!!

Having said this, in all other aspects I just love this car to bits. It does everything a retired old git like me needs even compared to my beloved Cooper S which had to go after five years because my grandchildren no longer fitted in the back and I can't afford two cars now.

Happy Yeti motoring to all!

Ditto - but I did mine from Sunny Yorkshire :)

I wonder if someone in SUK marketing is tracking options. I'm sure her graph will go off the wall at their next meeting. Darn she will say: "I knew we should have added this seat and mirror thing from the start! But I just did not know what folding mirrors did so thought we shant add it for UK consumption".

Next month or in a year she will finally decipher what MDI is and add that for UK order and again the same spike will happen to changed orders with dealers groaning under the strain of changing near every Yeti order on their books. She won't learn I'm sure. emoticon-0145-shake.gif

And I thought Skoda was the premium brand in the VA Group!!!!!

Sorry Rod, but I have now driven nearly 3k miles in mine and I haven't noticed this as a problem. All you have to do is move your head a little.

Having started this chain re door mirrors way back, thank you all for your responses which are testament to what a good little site this really is.

On mirrors, they are definitely not split view with exagerated convex outer and I have them adjusted perfectly to optimise widest view (no, I don't need to be looking at my car, I'm more concerned with other cars coming up on me!), On blind spots, I agree with all criticisms of pillars. I do find myself moving back and forth a bit more than usual to deal with both of these small problems. The mirrors could be improved very easily by simply changing the lens design and I still don't know if Skoda do this or intend to do so in the future.

Notwithstanding these issues, the Yeti is a great little machine and I have no regrets in making the change.
