Buying advice

Featured Replies

I know this has probably been covered before but need a helping hand on what to look for on the fabia vrs. I'm going to look at a 2004 plate which has had usual done to it including lowered remappped and has audi brakes put on it. Only concern is that it has 80,000 should this be a problem and is there anything else i should be looking at. I am also split between a totally standard unmodified one at the same kind of price but 20k less miles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and look forward to posting regularly when i do eventually see one.

80,000 miles, barely run in. That said, if there is a standard car with less miles for the same money, get the unmolested version. Some people can modify cars very well, others are total bodge jobs.

As you'll know there are lots of things on this site and indeed others that will give you the guide price.

Basically - a modified car being offered at more than standard car, of the same age with 20k less miles means the modified car is probably too expensive.

As said above, there is a huge difference between a modified car which has been done well and one that has been done on the cheap. 80k miles is nothing. If you get a diesel you'll be doing more than average milage per year, i know i do nearly 24k miles per year commuting for example. There is nothing wrong with that mileage, provided you get a good service history.

See how much the guy knows about the car, i always find the ones that have modified a car, for example, but fail to know much about it and don't really have a lot of enthusiasm for it are ones to steer clear of. See how long he has owned it for, check he hasn't just bought it on a whim, because thats what he fancied that month. I know guys that go through cars like i go through shoes. They'll get one, rag it for 6 months and then sell it when they're bored. Just be wise :)

Thanks guys, I've been able to contact the previous owner discomikey from here and he's spent thousands on it with receipts so looks like a really good car but will depend on the price. Think the guy selling the car bought it in January this year and no longer needs a diesel to get to work. So I'll see what it's like this evening.

Wish me luck and thanks again for the advice
