3M CF Vinyl on LCR splitter

Featured Replies

How much carbon did you need to buy? I also want to replace the OEM black pillar trim with some carbon film tho.

I bought the 120 by 60 cm @ £27 on ebay. Used about 1/3rd? with careful cutting. I can probably do the wing mirrors with it and not have much left for anything else :( I want to do the exhaust.. :giggle:

Its on hold anyway atm. I have some other toys to attend to :smirk:

yea i though that , eww horrid gaps and im gonna hate that in a week................ now its fallen off i miss it :'(

Just an update on this, when it is wet it looks shockingly bad (fake), when its bright sunny day, it looks good.

Its staying on well with very minor splitting due to me using as a snow plough :giggle: wouldn't notice it though unless you stare at it for a while.

I've planned the next stage, but it may look a bit funny............... stay tuned.

Not for me. Looks a bit tacky with the joins and would annoy me everyday if it was mine, but each to their own.

It needs setting back a bit and run two longer tapping screws throught the 2 sticking up tabs

I've tried that, I originally wanted it to be flush with the front of the car but no luck. The bit that has a hole is where the flex is, its flexing to the front of the car, its pretty hard to then flex it upwards without breaking something :(

I agree the joins arn't v pretty but thats due to user error :giggle:

Post some pics up of your DRL's they look very neatly installed.

Ofc now I'd prob advise just spending £30 on a set and be done with modding for higher power lol

Wasn't sure at first but meh, its growing on me.

Quite like the 'vents' done like that - presume you've done the other side too ;)

Someone mentioned lacquering the Di-Noc wrap earlier in the thread too. This has been discussed on other forums and apparently the film reacts with the lacquer if you apply some, and just ends up going black as somebody's already found and confirmed :)

Thanks, I wasn't sure at first because camera makes it look very 'flat'.

Lol yes, I've done the other side too..

Yeah I did try a test piece on lacquering it up and it looked a bit poo, maybe I used wrong lacquer because it seemed that on a website it looked ok. ah well. My LCR shovel is lasting ok atm with snow and rain without lacquer. I've also done something else but thats not fully completed yet so I shall keep it under wraps until tomorrow.. B) (this will definitely look good).

Have you got a shot further out as well, perhaps the whole side of the car - just to give an overall view?

My understanding was that you couldn't use any lacquer on it, of any type, at all. It's certainly pretty good stuff though, and tough. Another good and reliable 3M product really

Can do tomorrow (weather permitting), however I've decided the green rim stickers look a bit cack so please excuse them..

wrt lacquer: http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/blog/how-one-customer-made-his-3m-carbon-fiber-di-noc-glossy/

But I didn't have any success with this even with very light coating, maybe wet and dry each layer will help?

Interesting link

Need to do some more experimenting with it really.
