Exterior trim Octy vRS Mk1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Can anyone answer this one please ? The exterior plastic trim that fits around the doors and bumpers on my mk1 Octy vRS has started greying and although Ive treated it, its not retaining the "blackness" for long. Phoned a local VAG specialist today who told me that the trim is no longer made by Skoda. Have seen a few Octavia vRS that have had a colour coded retrim which looks pretty good, but cant find the trim after doing some googling. Anyone got any ideas ? How hard is it to replace ? Other alternative is to find a more "permanent" treatment for the plastic ones on the car at the minute..which I actually dont mind keeping as it keeps the car original..any ideas ? Ta

A good bodyshop can flat back the texture on the plastics and use a proper plastic primer and paint base (mixed with your colour) to respray all the parts as you require.

It is important that they rub the textured surface off as this makes the primer bond to the plastic properly and minimises the risk of it flaking off, which is what happens to most people when its not done properly. I've been into this as I'm going to get the 4motion abs plastic valances on the wife's Golf colour coded eventually.

Hope this is of some help!

found some mouldings now (non original)..are they easy to replace ? Im a bit "heavy handed" and dont want to mark my beloved motor :smirk:

I was going to strip mine off myself and paint them black, shouldn't take too much work.

Apparently you have to be gentle as they break easily, Im looking into this as well. A friend suggested taking a heat gun to them as it restores the blackness in them.
