Momentary Loss of Electrics and Power

Featured Replies

I was driving up the A1 yesterday when for a literally a second, everything went dead.

By the time I realised something was up, everything worked again!

The gauges all died, the radio went off and the car chugged before everything returned to normal.

Any one had this before?

Could be a loose battery terminal !

Nope, both terminals nice and tight.

With a slight delay (haven't been much around this forum for a while, catching up now), here's my 2p: check the steering wheel control module. Mine worked itself loose a bit just before a 4500 km trip this summer, causing exactly the same symptoms (albeit in stand, luckily).

No wonder this happens: a chunky piece of PCB in a plastic case hangs from underside of steering column, held only by two plastic clips and a tiny screw. The part that is first to lose contact is the one that houses connector to ignition lock...what a flaw in design...

You can use a cable tie, just wrap it around steering column and SW control module - to prevent further problems...
