Yeti V Octavia

Featured Replies

Just throwing this out to any off you that have moved from the Octavia to the Yeti. How does it compare, i.e whats good and whats not so good.

I've only had my Yeti a little over a week and have to say it is a good car with good road holding and manners but ride quality is below that of the Octavia.

So here is my initial list of what I think is good:

Road holding

Driving position

5 star NCAP

ESP as standard

Day time running lights as standard

Loading height

All round visibility (with the exception of the passenger side A pillar blind spot, I know its around the same thickness as that on the octavia but with the Yeti's driving position it seems to cause more obstruction).

Uniqueness (not that many about yet while the Octavia numbers are growing rapidly)

What I miss from the Octavia:

Ride quality

Luggage space

I moved from an Octavia to Octavia Scout to Yeti

Compared to the Scout I find these better

1. Acceleration - I smile every time I apply some right foot ;-) bye bye hot hatch

2. Comfort

3. Road Handling - its glued to the ground

4. Flexability in the back - only shame is that the middle seat doesnt fold down (up?) properly because it hits the jombo box (even with the head rest off) whenit folds forward.

5. Cheeper to insure (somehow!)

6. Lights - I love the BiXenons and the cornering fog lights

7. Its very different to anything else on the road

8. Haldex Clutch 4x4 - To be honest the Scout sold me on this last winter in the snow, but this ones even better :-)

Worse

1. Boot space - ended up buying a roof box for use on Family holidays, its about a third smaller than the Octavia

2. MPG - but only slightly and the engines still bedding in.

3. Leather Seats - would like a cooling mode as well as the heating option

4. Passenger footwell - may be me, but I'm sure I can feel vibrations in the footwell though the floor.

After moving from my Honda Accord Tourer, here is my likes and dislikes.

Likes...

1. Higher seating position gives a good commanding view of your surroundings

2. I LOVE the stare factor as people look at you :D

3. Phone interface with the Bolero. (anyone know how to audiostream with an iPhone 4??)

4. Better economy with the diesel engine, cheaper tax and insurance than my old Honda

5. Haldex 4x4 system yet to be put to the test

6. NO rattles, squeaks or weird 'this part isnt fixed down very well' noises :giggle:

Dislikes (not so much dislikes, more like missing what my Honda had)

1. BMW M3 destroying power

2. Remote opening and closing of rear tailgate

3. My old honda was beginning to start having irritating rattles :dull:

4. Glove box is a tad on the small side on the SM and its not lockable

Ummmmm...........................I think that's all really

I believe audio streaming is set up via the maxidot -see manual

Boot lid can be remotely unlocked, it then pops open. You have to then manually lift it up.

As I moved from an 06 Octavia Elegance 140 HD Estate I feel more qualified than others to follow up on this thread. :p

In favour of the Octavia:

Massive boot space - the only drawbacks being that the contents of the boot tend to expand to fill the available space.

Better econonmy - at about the same mileage, the Octavia regularly returned about 5mpg better than the Yeti under similar usage. This could be the HD being more efficient than the CRD.

Being shorter (car not me  ), Octavia is easier to wash.

List price and actual purchase price a fair bit cheaper.

In favour of the Yeti:

Nicer and more comfortable seating position.

Quality of build is improved on the Yeti although this may have changed for the newer Octavia too.

Much quieter and smoother - again the CRD is probaby the reason although wind noise is much improved on the Yeti.

No smoke from the CRD exhaust although this has again altered on the latest Octavia.

More confident handling and feeling planted on the road. 4 wheel drive possibly helping.

More compact - hence easier in heavy traffic and to park.

Better equipment at Elegance spec level. The Octavia has now gained things like the Bolero radio but leather trim and heated seats amongst others, remain an extra on the Octavia.

The Yeti somehow feels more special and less of a 'fleet car' - in part helped by the present rarity of them.

You seem to be hassled less by white van man and outside lane BMWs in the Yeti.

The Yeti I think looks more eye catching and attractive than the Octavia.

Likely better residual value as rarity new will mean that there are fewer to go round in the used market.

Overall, Yeti is quality and style for more money but the Octavia is still good and huge inside for less money. Both are excellent cars.

I moved from an Octavia 2 Combi, Elegance 140 PD 2005 to the Yeti 2.0 TDI 170 CR.

In favor of the Ocatvia:

More sporty handling.

Bigger boot.

Slightly better mileage on short runs.

Significantly better mileage on long high speed runs (100 mph).

In favor of the yeti:

Much quieter.

Much more comfortable ride.

Nice high seating position for vision of the road.

Easy entry and exit for us older folks.

Much better roadholding in inclement weather.

Faster acceleration 0-100 km/hr+

Haldex 4 with all it entails.

Drawbacks with the YetI:

Poor location of the rear view mirror.

I have also moved from an Octavia estate. (Ok just sold Octy, waiting for Yeti)

for octavia:

massive boot

economy

electric drivers seat

Yeti

I'll have to wait to answer that one!

but I can but guess.....

4. Passenger footwell - may be me, but I'm sure I can feel vibrations in the footwell though the floor.

No not just you I have this with both front foot wells and foot pedals but intermittent depending on the road surface and temperature. Mind my lads old Furby is the same although less pronounced.

Me thinks it might be the road surface being transmitted up through the Console Bushes.

TP

Sore hips climbing in and out of the Octy!
