Line-In on the standard Skoda Symphony

Featured Replies

Is it possible to connect a line-in (aux-in) on the standard headunit? It would be nice to hook up a MP3 player or possibly even an in-car PC (I have big plans). The standard stereo setup might sound very average, but I like the way it looks like part of the dashboard, and don't particularly want the expense of getting the fitting kit, a new headunit and all the bits - it would just be nice to have a few gigs of music on hand. CDs are very 90's if you know what I mean.

I noticed the little space in front of the gearlever where the ashtray is on my Fabia is very much the same size as the dock for a Rio Karma or iPod. Also on the PC front, there is space under the passenger seat for some gear, and the hole under the stereo where my phone currently lives looks promising for an LCD panel and some switches :D

dont think so blaupunkt line in kits fit.. but do not function with the octy unit... assume fabia one is same apart from front panel...

buy an alpine and enjoy much better sound quality to boot....

Have a look at this interface to enable a pda to play mp3 via a VW/Audi HU:

It looks a bit complicated as it requires you to break into the CD changer to HU wiring but it may suit your needs - especially if it works!!

One of those options is looking promising! I know that the Fabia CD Changer (if you have one) is supposed to be under the front passenger seat. Is the wiring there already if you don't have one? Would I need to buy some kind of wiring loom to hook up one of these adapters to fool the unit into thinking a changer was attached?

The wiring isn't inplace unless you have the changer

OK, thanks. In that case I'll see how much the wiring for the changer will cost (assuming Skoda will sell me it), or else figure out some other way of connecting it up to the rear of the headunit instead.

The VW-iPod interface (http://home.earthlink.net/~ipod-vw/) looks like a fun toy, don't suppose anyone has tried this on a Skoda headunit?

Right here goes:

WIRING.jpg

In the above diagram that should basically be the wiring for the CD changer unit (into the blue block on Kammer C(3).

Short pins 13 - 15 together to create a loop signal and then take a 3.5mm stereo jack lead and chop off one end. The outer loop is the negative and supplys the whole lead, and then you should have a red and white wire within (+ive L and +ive R respectivly) Wire these all up to a miniISO block, disconnect the radio power (have code handy), and plug it in. Reconnect power and put code in. Now when you press CD or aux, it should display either, CD1, Aux or NO COMMU, and you should have sound...

At least thats the theory

It wont die if you do it (AFAIK :rofl::rofl::rofl: )

How about adding better speakers and using a FM radio tuner

product like the ARCON SOUNDFEEDER? Will save you from any rewiring and your

MP3's will com eout on an unused FM radio station, granted this might not be

the audio quality required but good, cheap and quick solution until you get hooked up !!

I don't think grounding the pin for the CD Changer Control pin is going to work. Aparantly, this works as kind of a 'bus' where the headunit communicates to the changer and there is some kind of protocol to be followed before the unit will detect a changer as being there. That is why all the adapters you see have some kind of PIC that talks like a CD Changer on this pin. I have read elsewhere that the line-in won't work unless the headunit is convinced a changer is there.

Thanks for the diagram anyway, I'm sure it will be useful!

That would be a quick solution.

But a friend of mine has an iTrip for his iPod and always tells me how annoying it is. Apparantly as you are driving along the frequency changes slightly for your stereo to have the best reception from the iTrip which starts introducing noise. Can anyone vouch for this?

Thanks for the tip though.

So does the grundig setup. This uses the MCD36 cd changer but can also use others. You only really require a bus signal if you are going to apply control over it. This pin out makes it think there is an active device connected and allows sound to pass through rather than apply control.

OK' date=' thanks. In that case I'll see how much the wiring for the changer will cost (assuming Skoda will sell me it), or else figure out some other way of connecting it up to the rear of the headunit instead.

Hi,

I'm looking into this. I want to interface a 4th gen iPod with the Skoda Symphony ie I want to be able to control the iPod via the headunit just like the Dension Ice Link. Dension want silly money for their adapter - the parts come to less than

I put Short pins 13 - 15 together, on my Skoda Symphony (Fabia).

I didn't work. I always have "No disc".

Right, i'm keen on making one of these but haven't got a clue where to get a mini ISO from tried Maplins, Halfords, Sextons, any other ideas? Don't really want to go the ebay route as i want one NOW ;)

Sound gallery have them. They make up the leads as and when they need them.

Try any local ICE or auto-electrics place.

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get this working?

I have had a go and had no luck, just wondering if there is some setup on the device it's self that is required to tell it to use the AUX input?

Cheers
