Alarm problem

Featured Replies

Hi

The alarm on my 2006 Octavia hatchback keeps going off randomly every now and again. There also appears to be a problem with the siren as that doesn't work but the hazard lights do flash when the alarm is activated. I have owned the car for about a year and the problem started about 7-8 months ago. There is no pattern to it, sometimes the alarm will go off 2 days in a row then it doesn't do it for a month or two. I've read on previous posts that it could be faulty door/bonnet/boot sensors. Whereabouts is the bonnet sensor as I can't find it. Could a faulty siren be triggering the alarm. One good thing about the siren not working is not upsetting the neighbours.

Any advice would be appreaciated.

Hi I had a similar problem with my 2006 Octy the siren is aparently a common failure, Ebay could be your freind here, the siren is located on the OSF inner wing, wheel off arch liner out to get to that. Now the intermittant alarms, do you have anything dangling inside such as an air freshner, the reason i ask is that any movement could cause a disturbance in the car and then trigger the alarm. Another reason could be if the car is parked at an angle then perhaps the tilt sensor maybe a little more sensitive and any wind could just send it over the edge......

IIRC the bonnet & door locks have the switch built into them. Had similar problem on a Fabia and had to replace one of the rear door locks to cure! A VCDS scan should help narrow it down before you go buying/replacing parts.

Hi

I thought I would put a post regarding a conclusion to the random alarm problem on my Octavia. Took it to my main dealer and they diagnosed it as a faulty siren which I had suspected for a long time. They replaced the siren 3 weeks ago and "touch wood" since then no random alarm going off. I'm over the moon that this has been sorted as I was getting worried this would turn out to be expensive trying to diagnose an intermittent problem. I hope this post helps others in the future if they have a similar problem.
