Dog guard for hatch?

Featured Replies

We usually use our Octavia estate (with dog guard) when taking the dog with us on trips. I decided to buy the Superb hatch instead of estate as I fancied a change (my old Passat was an estate). However, when I transporting items to the local tip (with the luggage cover taken out), I thought it should still be possible to transport a dog in the boot of a Superb hatchback (with luggage cover removed), but Skoda only offer a dog guard for the estate car. Just wondering it this is a silly idea and, if not, if anyone knows if it would be possible to buy a dog guard to fit the Superb hatchback?

Many thanks,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

As you are in sunny Ecosse (while this hour) There is an internet based (you can also visit) company in Livingstone that supplies Racks and guards for almost all cars, I used them before (although for my Octivia, before my Superb) for a bike rack and found them very good, will even so you how to fit. They website filters by make and model, if they cant supply I think you will be stuggling.

I have a hatch and I put our dog in the boot using the split door with the cover down and he is happy as larry with the room, never had him trying to climb over, but he is only a cocker

Sorry cant rember the name but a wee search on google or the like should do the trick.

Regards

the Rufus

Like Rufus I have a Superb Twindoor. I put the dog in the boot as well, and raise the headrests on the back seat as a discourgaement to the dog coming through. - so far no problems so I havent gone looking for a dog guard - but you coud try The RoofBox Company: www.roofbox.co.uk

Thanks guys, that's very helpful indeed. I shall do a search and give them a call. I'm encouraged that you put your dogs in the boot also (i.e. it's not such a silly idea).

Our dog is small, being a Cavalier King Charles, but she is very loving and so would jump over the seats at any opportunity, so I think a guard will be required. However, I shall try it without for a bit (with headrests raised) and see how it goes.

Thanks again!

Hi BoneDoggy -

I looked at a few websites and, like you, found no dog guard listed under the Superb Hatch model. I contacted two sites and both said that the simplest solution would be to buy a dog guard that fits onto the rear headrests. I have yet to buy one though (moving house in 2 weeks so busy with packing), but I have my eye on one or two. I'll let you know what I decide. I would be interest in your thoughts also. :yes:

All the best,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew, I have found this on on ebay. Listed as Skoda Superb Dog Guard, See link below. It is £51.50

Its called a Mont Blanc K9E Head Rest Dog Guard

It fits to the Headrests like you said above. Have a look.

Also seen it on this web site with better Pic's for £38.45 Link below

Just to update this.

I bought the Mont Blanc K9E in October and had several problems with it:

- the guard, with side panels attached, was not wide enough to stop our Cavalier King Charles squeezing through the sides;

- with the side panels fitted, the bolts struggled to fit the depth required, and so did now allow a secure fit;

- when not in use, the luggage cover would not fit with the guard still attached, which was a nuisance.

So, I ended up going down the dog cage route instead, and got myself one of these 2-door cages (in small) last week. An infinite improvement over the guard. The dog is happier and safer, the boot doesn't get dirty after walks in the rain on or on the beach, and the luggage cover fits when the cage is not in use (with cage upright or not). From my own experience, I would definitely recommend the cage over the guard for owners of small dogs with the Superb hatch.
