Crazy wipers

Featured Replies

My 1999 Octavia tdi has a problem with the windscreen wipers. They don't stop when they should. When they do eventually deem to stop they park them selves radomly on the windscreen. It normally takes half a dozen switch on and offs before they stop correctly. This happens at all wiper speeds including the intermittant setting. Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how I might fix it.

Either a faulty motor or possibly a wiper relay.

Do you know anyone local with one that you can borrow to test, the realy is quite easy to get to.

Unfortunately I don't know any other Octavia owners. Can you describe where the relay is on the car? Thanks.

I had a similar fault on my 1999 Octavia 1.6 GLXi. The wiper motor arm nut had come loose

allowing the wiper arms to go out of sync. I had noticed the motor was noisier than usual just

before this happened. The motor is on the right hand side compartment under the windscreen,

you must remove the wiper arms and lift the plastic cover to gain access. Check that the relay arm on the wiper motor points horizontal to the left, eg:the kerb , when the wipers are

parked. Allways switch the ignition off when working on the wiper mechanism in case you trigger the self park and trap your fingers !!!!

The wiper relay arm nut is a 13mm, from other posts I see this is a common fault
