Fabia Window Regulator- 'Broken Plastic Part?'

Featured Replies

I recently had the known window winder problem where the weak plastic part on the slider mounted on the door carrier broke! I did a search on 'Briskoda' ,and the Internet ,and could not find a definitive answer. I fitted a plastic replacement part and, am looking for a metal version of the plastic part for my Mk I Fabia front window. I believe USA owners are able to buy this part ,and that it is a VW Golf part?. Does anybody know an answer to my question please?

It is a replacement metal window clamp that you are reading about. The slide is still made of plastic.

Skoda dont sell this as an individual part, best thing is to go onto ebay and get the window regulator kit as the wires generally could do with a replace too. Skoda sell the full inner door skin for about £80 and eurocar parts dot he same for £40. Pretty difficult to change the wires and plastic so a full skin may be quicker to obtain and install.

VW used to do a regulator repair kit for the Golf to change the plastic slider to a die cast metal version but it also included wires and a new cable drum. Not sure if you can still get them but they were expensive IIRC (£40 or so at least) and I'm not sure they are exctly the same. Best bet is to replace with plastic and make sure everything is lubed up with a grease that won't dry out (the OE lithium stuff goes hard over time and jams the sliders).

Thanks for all your replies, I have already replaced the broken plastic part with a plastic part , and thought I would ask if there was a metal replacement part available.

Hello, Can you please help me as I have the same problem. Did you remove the regulator panel as I can't seem to unclip the electrical wires in mine. Did you manage to get just the broken part? My cables also sound messed up, so I need to get behind it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi sorry for the late reply,I have been away, and just seen your post. You need to completely remove the carrier plate ,to refit any parts . Look for any electrical connectors to undo, there is one where the door hinges are in the rubber covers. I was lucky ,it was one white plastic runner which had broken.I got a replacement on Ebay (about £9) ,and replaced it.If you are lucky ,the metal cable stays in the correct position, its just a case of prising it off the corner pulley, refit new part, and refit metal cable onto pulley. The cable is tentioned by strong springs,on the cable ends. I also greased all the moving parts-Hope this helps ,if you still have this problem?
