Just made the order, countdown begins!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been reading your forum for some time silently (now I know more for Yeti than my dealer for sure) and I want to thank you for making me made my decision (towards Yeti, of course :) ). The forum is great, with lots of useful information and pictures that I could not find anywhere else (especially from Skoda). Maybe it's because I've gathered that much information and opinions I decided to go with the SnowMonster instead of Nissan Qashqai+2 and Mitsubishi ASX.

So I just made the plunge - ordered 1.8TSI 4x4 Adventure Black Magic pearl effect, with whole lot of extras (sunroof, HHC, off-road assist, rear parking sensors, climatronic, light assist, Swing and.. maybe all of the small extras). :)

Now the countdown begins - 90 days... Wish me luck! :)

Welcome and great choice in car you made!

You said you ordered a sunroof?!?! Did the dealer allow you to do that?!? Peculiar... As everyone seems to say they will only perhaps start building sunroofs in Jan or Feb 2011...

Welcome.

Did you actually test the Mitsubishi ASX? That looks a good competitor for the Yeti so it is interesting that you went for the Yeti. How did it compare, in what areas was one superior to the other? It was not out in the UK before I placed my order so I have not done the direct comparisons.

@ EdmundBlackadder: Yes, I did test drives with all cars (Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 DI-D, Nissan Qashqai+2 2.0 petrol, Skoda Yeti 1.8 petrol).

The ASX was pretty good, for me it is the sexiest among these three :) , but as many people have said, the Yeti look grew in me. Anyway I was going for the 1.6 petrol ASX (not available for TD), but was afraid how it will behave with only 117 horses under the hood. Also slightly more expensive (relatively the same equipment). Without 4x4 for that price.. I miss the USB though :(

The Qashqai+2 is almost identical, the two seat in the back (+2) are almost useless. No 4x4 for that price. The dealer was horrible, just horrible. The headroom for the backseat is quite small.

The Yeti had the roughest test drive - raining, bad roads - it handled perfectly. It's the most spacious cabin definitely. Most extras for that price. Plus 4x4! Also the sunroof opens!

@900000: After reading your forum, I was afraid of the same, but I really wanted the sunroof - so I specifically asked the dealer about that. He said that there is no such thing (he also checked by the phone) so he put in the contract the standard 90 days, saying it will be here probably for ~70. Hope he's right! ;)

Ah yes! This is a very important thing for me too. I don't even look at a car that has a glass roof that can't open. Pointless as it just lets all the heat in and you can't park leaving it on tilt to let the heat out. Daft.

My thoughts exactly! (however they come to me only after seeing the SM, before that I was amazed by Mitsubishi and Nissan's sunroofs)

Is it possible to retrofit another sunroof to the Yeti. Would I want to?

It will be possible yes. I can't find it now but on the German A2 owner's club someone had fitted an Open Sky full width and length panoramic sunroof to an A2 that did not have one before. It looked well scary when they cut that hole in the roof!!! But as you can imagine it is not a job for the faint hearted!

sorry, doublepost

Retrofitting sunroofs used to be quiet popular before they came a regular option on cars. I had one fitted to my first ever car, a second hand Mini Metro back in 1994. I had to leave the garage when they were doing it as they literally take a big saw to the roof and cut away. It was a cracking job though and worked a treat. I have not seen this advertised for a long time but there are probably people out there who still do it. Just walk away before they start the saw up though.

90 days for a sunroof...................I don't think so :D

Seriously through you've made a wise choice because us lot on here are FAR nicer than the bunch on the Nissan forum or Mitsubishi forum :giggle:

If I could have got mine with a sunroof in 90 days I think I would have ordered from Bulgaria too !!

Are they different rules can you still get a sunroof ?? Good luck if you can, hope it goes smoothly !

I know, sounds impossible, I just have my fingers crossed :)

At least there will be penalties for the dealer if they don't make it in 90 days as stated in the contract, so maybe some more extras ;)

90 days? Best of luck if it's a factory order. I'd stick an extra digit infront of your estimation personally.

Well I did wonder myself !! :|

That will be a really bad scenario... Even the penalties could not make up for such a long wait.

Mine was ordered beginning of May with sunroof and I am anticipating 180+ days from order to delivery, and that was brought forward a lot !! So good luck is al I can say ! Maybe you should go back to your dealer for a more realistic appraisal of the sunroof situation ??

I agree. I suspect your dealer has not sold many (or indeed any) Yeti's with a sunroof and might be basing his 90 days on cars coming from the other two factories and not Kvasiny. Anything coming from Kvasiny - and especially with a sunroof - has huge waiting lists and delays at the moment.

Good luck.

I would presume the sunroof problem is a whole group thing though isnt it ?, not just factory biased ? I am really surprised that they even allowed an order to go through in June with a sunroof at all ??

No, as far as I am aware the issue is/was with only one specific type of sunroof and that is the one they use on the Superb Estate and the Yeti (it is the same sunroof). This sunroof is only installed at Kvasiny. No other Skoda uses this sunroof - the Roomster's is fixed and the Octavia's is a postage stamp traditional affair going into the roof when it retracts.

Im only going by what I was told by those in the know at Skoda UK and it was a glass supply problem as opposed to a specific sunroof type problem, so imagined that the glass would affect other sunroof types in the group, but I obviously haven't a clue ! Just very surprised they let him order a sunroof, let alone in June when the problem had been highlighted for a few weeks by then ?

Even if the dealer was not aware of such delay (as I have said, I specifically told him what I know from this forum for delays related with the sunroofs, he checked and said "No, there is no such thing, 120 at most, but we still leave 90 days in the contract"), I don't want to go check with him again - I definitely want the sunroof anyway so I'll wait as long as needed, and I also don't want them to change the contract with more realistic date - in this way at least the penalties will start earlier and they will have stimulus to push things more.

Im sure it will be worth the wait !!

Small update - just called the dealer and he checked in the system about my order - and build week is set to 44 (didn't specified the year though ). He said that since last week the delivery times are longer (for Yeti, Fabia Combi and something else, didn't listen that carefully), but he was not aware of delivery problems related with sunroof...

As of today the build week is confirmed by the dealer to be 44. The order was made on 09.09 (wk36), with sunroof & lots of extras... I'm confused if the dealer is not honest with me, or it could be possible.
