Should I expect a discount?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm considering purchasing a Yeti (170 4x4 Elegance) in the next few days in order to ensure I'm not stung for the 2.5% VAT increase. I accept that I'm likely to be looking at a long wait!

I've checked out drivethedeal and a couple of other broker sites and whilst I am not stupid enough to expect my local dealer to match their prices which suggest an 11.7% discount (I will have a Part Exchange) am I realistic to expect say an 8% discount? Given the long wait for delivery I did wonder whether experience has shown dealers holding out for full RRP?

Any feedback gratefully received.

I ordered in June and hope to get my SM early next month - I had no PX which may of helped but I did find a dealer who would match the Brokers price, not my local dealer, and I had to phone around but it is possible. Results varied from no discount to as far as I can calculate 12% (extras complicate matter), when I did offer my old car in PX I did get some ridiculously low offers so I sold it privately got £4.5K more and am now sharing the Wife's Jazz until the beast arrives.

I printed off an internet price offer, then went to the local dealer and asked how close they could get.

Stated I'd rather use a local dealer, but not if it was going to cost me a lot.

They got close enough (about 10% off) so I put down a deposit there and then.

Many thanks for the responses, pretty much what I hoped to hear. Purchase still on for next weekend!

You should be OK to get a sensible discount for a straight purchase; dealers still want to shift cars!

However, I think you'll be unlucky in your aim of avoiding the 2.5% VAT increase in January as any Yeti ordered now will likely be for January (or even February) delivery; unless you are lucky and can find one in stock or due to be built soon.

I ordered mine at the end of June (week 25) and it is due to be built week 44 (1st week November) so I will hopefully get delivery by the end of November i.e. 5 months after order. It may be slightly swifter now as there won't be the 3-4 week summer shutdown in the process but I'd suggest you are still looking at 4 months from order to deliver.

From experience I'd say; dont let the price be the absolute over riding factor in who you go with.

The money is of course important but I made the unfortunate mistake of buying my Yeti from a non local dealer and it has ended up costing me more to put things right on the car compared to me accepting the local dealers quote that was just £200 more. :wonder:

Most of the local dealers I spoke to were happy to talk around the 10% discount mark. :)

Skoda are keeping the VAT at 17.5% on all cars ordered before the end of September I believe.

Sound like a good move if you are buying a Yeti; but aren't Octavia and Fabia 'VAT free' at the moment?

Yes but if you order after the end of the September you will get the 17.5% VAT free offer but you will be liable for the extra 2.5% in the new year. This may change on the 1st of October but we don't know for certain.
