Removing Columbus unit?

Featured Replies

Has anybody removed the dash or managed to get the Columbus unit out? I ask as I would like to know what I/O connections are available- I understand there is no pre/out connection for a "real" subwoofer (BTW I have ordered the upgraded audio system), but I would be interested to know what other connectivity is available... Also, has anyone explored the underseat amp. which comes with the premium audio system? Maybe a few spare connections there...?

Cheers,

Maxbert

PS Apols. if this has already been asked, spent a most instructive 4 hours last night perusing the threads, but no joy on this topic...

Remove the surround and you'll see the securing screws.

Thanks GGO! As soon as she arrives I will! I ask as my Civic 2.2 drove me (an others!) mad- No AUX in, no iPod / Phone connection save Bluetooth for phone only. This was, I believe, fixed in later units, but v. annoying at the time. Anyway, all should be well with the Superb, counting the weeks... Civic needed 100% dash removal to get to the audio unit, only to find that one could do nothing with it!

Cheers,

If you look on eBay, you should find pics showing the outputs.

You should have 3.5mm aux-in in the armrest.

Blast! ISO connectors, eh? I'm an old guy (42), CINCH and suchlike is more to my understanding... Ah well, many thanks Simbo, if I can get the ISO plugs with wires hanging out of them I can splice 'em to whatever I want!

You be careful, todays cars are a bit snobby about being tinkered with, the car will be full canbus and if you connect up wrong you will be staring at 4 figures to sort it out, and don't pull anything off like the airbag warning light or you can kiss £60 goodbye having Skoda reset it and get rid of the chime.

You can get iso adapters to link just about anything in for about £20-£30.

@ Supurbia- Yeah, I know what you mean... I remember in my 20's pulling a Renault Espace apart and installing a fab. sound system (Becker Mexico head unit, Macrom amps (3!) and speakers, Subwoofer, all hidden to provide max. enjoyment only, no "show-off" stuff... Hammer and screwdriver to whack out the firewall plug, tug 5 mm battery power lead through the fusebox... Happy days! No longer really possible now... unless I rip out the Colombus unit freeing up a nice double-DIN space, pry off the door covers to change the speakers, use the space to park amplifiers all over, and, and, AND... -

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, besides Mrs. Maxbert would have my guts for garters :S
