CV boot split

Featured Replies

I woke up this morning to find a nice splattering of gunk in the inside of my front passenger side wheel.

On jacking the car up and removing the wheel I found the source of the gunk to be a nice little split in one of the ribs of the cv joint boot which had caused some of the grease to wee itself out. As a temporary fix I have stuffed a load of high temp grease in, sewn up the split (yes, needle and thread, ) and taped over the stitches around the rib with tape; seems to be holding ok at the moment but I don't want to run it like this for long with winter on the way.

Is there an easy fix for small split/any solution tips or am I going to have to get the whole boot replaced?

Cheers.

replace old boot. Easy realy

It's easy to do really. As long as it's an outer boot, not inner. I had an inner CV boot go on my old car, 3 times (uber low) so couldn't do it myself due to not being keen on popping a driveshaft out

Yeah its the outer, never taken a CV out of a hub, is there a guide somewhere (maybe I should just search B) )?

does the whole hub assembly need to come off to get the joint out or is there a simple way?

Just take the ball joint off and pull the driveshaft out that way
