Turbo Issues

Featured Replies

Anyone had problems with their turbos ? My Scout had it's first turbo replaced at 14k and is now up for another at 27k, just 13k later. I'm starting to get a little worried as to the longivity of these especially as my warranty expires in Nov.

Hats off to Horton Skoda in Lincoln who diagnosed and will be replacing it with no quibbles whatsoever.

Unfortunately I believe turbo problems are fairly wide spread with diesels. Nothing specific to Skoda and nothing to worry about as such (given the number of diesels on the road) but it seems to be one of those things. This effects the entire VAG range, BMWs etc. If it were me I would consider taking out an extended warranty for peace of mind if it is cheap enough.

TBH is the turbos have only lasted that long, then I think they should also replace all the feed pipes to it.

Having taken the old turbo off, I'd want root cause failure analysis to see why they have both failed, then this corrected and a new turbo fitting.

If this isn't done then they are just going to fit another turbo and you will keep lunching them.

Have suggested to them that there may be an underlying cause and I believe they're going to investigate as they seem a bit perplexed as to why the new unit failed so soon. I'll have to keep this thread updated. Again, like the first turbo, it seems to be the vanes sticking hence a squeal on boost.

Writing-off a turbo due to sticking vanes alone is drastic! An Italian Tune-Up ought to be your first port-of-call IMHO! :)
