Felicia Engine Conversion

Featured Replies

Hi all ..... am thinking of putting a 1.8 Turbo in a felicia .... for a track day special ... ( Blame Jason .... He has given me the track day bug) but dont know if to put full injection on it OR to put throttle bodies on it ... i know the engine will bolt in ... but its the electrics and gearbox and shafts and such ....

Could anyone shed some light please

Many thanks

Si

"dont know if to put full injection on it OR to put throttle bodies on it" - Em, this probably means you shouldn't do the job yourself.

Throttle bodies are a means of doing fuel injection, using one injector and butterfly per cylinder. The alternative is a single-point system, where you fuel the engine before the plenum chamber rather than after it.

Or maybe I've totally misunderstood you.

i think you've missed the point too ken... he 1.8T is multipoint injection, and so are pretty much all of the late vw engines...

and the engine will NOT 'bolt in' in a felicia, it will fit the engine bay if you are handy with a mig welder and have deep pockets however.. fwiw there are better engines around for a conversion into a felicia... the wiring is the easy bit

so what engine plant would u recommend?? i know VR6 have been done

i wouldn't want to say, it depends on how skilled you are.. the redtop vauxhall engine is favourite for a lot of folks

or the other way to think about it ..... the felicia is a 1.6 ..... if thats cammed... and maybe put twin 45's on her .... that would be cheaper ! lol .... and still put it up from 70BHP to a good 120-130ish BHP

you will struggle to find a good cam for that engine... if however you want a nice easy bolt in job, the 16v polo engine (100bhp) will go in quite easily, it costs viirtually nothing to do it too except for finding a decent engine..

Yeah, the 1.6 engine is a dog, unless you go for the full-on kitcar 1.6 route, and good luck finding the bits for that. Even then I don't think they last long. Tom's suggestions are both better ideas. Got an engine you can buy for the 1.4 16v conversion, as it happens.... ;-)

^^ shameless profiteering... :giggle: and i have a suitable wiring loom

I have a rally car to feed, Tom!
