silly, but tyre pressure question

Featured Replies

got some 18" wheels the rear was at 44psi and fronts at 35 psi both set by garage these seem wrong so can you point me in right direction

It's on the inside of the petrol cap. It's about 33psi, but it's displayed in Bar so it might be a bit more/less.

2010 Octavia VRS CR - 225x40x18" - supposed to be 2 bar (29/30 psi) all round according to label on the car - the steering is slightly heavier but there is reduced road noise.

The dealer always puts the pressures at 32 psi all round - lighter steering but more road noise.

44 and 35 seem a bit high which would probably make the car bounce around a bit and the tyres will wear in the middle although if the boot is fully loaded then maybe put an extra couple of psi in the rear tyres maybe 34 psi but not 44 - that is way too much.

Hope this helps

Dave

Recommendation on the fuel filler cap for 225/40 18 on my '07 vRS PD is 2.0bar front/2.1 bar rear.

However I run the 18s on my vRS at 34/35psi all round; equates to 2.3/2.35 bar.

Slightly higher than recommended on the fuel filler cap but I believe it gives tighter handling (at a very small expense of ride quality).

Certainly 44psi is way out!

PS> Remember to check you pressures with the tyres 'cold'; i.e. first thing in the morning. If you have driven anything more than a few miles the tyres will have warmed up that will increase the pressures.
