Dealer service or not?

Hi all

I am approaching that time where my fabia vrs needs a service, It has been serviced every 10000 miles at a dealer, how much difference does it make to the value if I don't get the service done at a dealer?

Hi all

big difference. I've never serviced the car at the main dealer.

on a fabia vRS not a lot

on a ferrari or something yeah.....

I service mine myself every 5k with the best products so i know exactly whats going in! plus i trust myself

I use my local garage who used to be a ford main dealer for servicing and they will carry out the same service as say Skoda, as long as the garage is VAT registered I think you are ok.

Full Skoda service history is nice to have, but so long as the car has been serviced properly it won't make much difference to future value. Where it might make a difference is if something unexpectedly goes faulty just out of warranty, and you want (or expect) Skoda to help you out. If you go elsewhere for your servicing you really can't expect Skoda to give you much in the way of good will.

If it's under manufacturer's warranty then I'd stick to the Dealer. If the Garauge you bought it from gave a 1 years warranty, then go back to them for the first service.

If it's out of warranty (manufacture, or Garage), then I'd go with the garage you trust and/or the cheapest. I use an local gauge (non-dealer) who are actually a Subaru/Mitsubishi specialist, but they service all kinds of cars, and I trust them. They strip down and clean the brakes as part of the service, the dealer would charge extra for that.

Whichever you choose, make sure they use the correct spec of oil (VW505.01, 5W-40).
