IMMOBILISER

Featured Replies

First of all - bit of courtesy to mods - hope it's OK to put this in here ,with a similar post in Fabia section . But the situation although similar, is slightly different .

Looking through insurance compare sites as I'm about to change my Furby for a Felly, I noticed that the option coming up on the Fabia/Felly Immobiliser was "Factory fit ,Thatcham- so I asked Skoda - as this is the Felly forum - she replied that it depends on the chassis number - so of the type of immobiliser drops your premiums - might be worth giving Skoda a ring - unless any of our experts can give the chapter and verse .( said in a colloquial way ,no hint of irony etc intended)

pretty much all of the felicia's have a CAT1 immobilizer factory fitted as standard, as far as i known it's only a handfull of pre 1996 cars that don't have them

The answer is inside your key :) Prise it apart as if to change the battery. If there's a small glass capsule inside, about the same size as a grain of rice, then you have an immobilizer. Careful it doesn't drop out, or the car won't start!

Thought that might be case -thanks for that Tom - as said -might be bit of useless info - but again if it gets someone a bit off their insurance - it's not so useless .And as the insurance companies don't seem to have this info - it's worth knowing .Skoda's answer was that all Felicias had an immobiliser ,but only certain ones ( depending on chassis number) had the CAT 1

I'm sure whenever I've looked it was always quoted as "manufacturer fitted" and that's what I select. Don't recall needing to specify if it was thatcham cat 1 etc.

i seem to remember reading that the actual definition of CAT1 is if it prevents the engine from starting then that's good enough

I've always selected factory fit( never noticed the Thatcham bit before ) -but if the insurers drop the price if it's Thatcham - again something I've not tried ,but they dropped my premium for opening the fence and paving the front garden -they call it on a drive - so in the days when they're nitpicking to get the price up -any extra to get it down might help . The intent of this post was to bring up the topic . Interesting thing is that some quotes only ask for additional security .

Bit like a few years ago ,I had an argument with my household insurers over my locks - yale operated mortice - they hit on the Yale bit and loaded the premium .Then I got hold of the local PC crime prevention officer ,who quoted them as better than 5 lever mortice - exit one red faced insurance company .

I'd always sort of assumed if it was Thatcham cat something or other then you'd have a certificate. I know if you went to get it aftermarket fit you'd have a certificate issued. Will have to look into this when I renew. I already put lots of effort into reducing insurance prices. Some good tips here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance?dd

That was my assumption - floored by the nice female at Skoda who sounded surprised to hear I didn't know all Fabias had car 1 immobiliser .Certainly nothing on the manual ,so I thought I'd ask about Fellys
