Cleared 3 fault codes

Featured Replies

I just cleard some fault codes on my Skoda Fabia 2002 Comfort after having done a few things to hopefully rectify the problems. When I took my car in to have an MOT, the mechanich said that he would clear the fault codes and that they would take maybe 2 cycles to return. What did he mean by this? I know, I should have asked him at the time but I automatically thought he meant something like 2 journeys. Anyway, now I've cleared the fault codes and the EML has disappeard, if there is till a fault, when should they re-appear? Thanks.

IIRC a cycle is start ignition, run up to normal temp (not sure if there is a time factor for this), ignition off.

If I'm wrong I'll be corrected

Thanks for that. :)

Can depend exactly what the faults, and corresponding fault codes were. Some faults will return immediately and therefore a fault will be logged immediately.

But you're right, some take time to return, as in it takes distances and 'cycles' for the ECU to notice something is amiss. A good example is if you bypass the EGR valve on a PD engined model. The lack of response from the EGR will trigger the CEL (check engine light). This can be cleared in VCDS and can take upto 50 miles to come back on.

On the whole it usually depends on how often a component is reporting its status really.

Cheers,

Steve
