Car absolutely stinks. Due to car dealer valet and water ingress...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My Wifes VRS stinks something rotten. I have tiger sealed the doors and there is no more water ingress...

There is however a smell that just wont go away. Its coming from the seats and flooring...

I am looking at air fresheners atm. I don't want an ambi pur one as they don't last long and i don't think they would tackle the smell...

Anyone here recommend a great air freshener?

Cheers

From the sound of it either your seats or carpet are going mouldy, simply using an air freshener will not make it disappear it will just mask it a bit, what you ideally really need to do is lift the carpets and then use some disinfectant to kill the mould that is growing, there are several pleasant smelling disinfectants on the market - fabreeze, zoflora etc.

If you have access to a carpet stream cleaner then this may be enough to do the job without lifting the carpets.

Where do you live? I have equipment to clean and deodourise the carpets/seats.

Think I'd take it to a decent valeter, for a proper interior job with an industrial wet & dry, using an anti-bacterial cleaning fluid.

For cars I've had that were in need of interior improvement, I've used a place in Manchester (not much good to you I know) who would do the interior properly for £30. Remember seeing the colour of the water used to clean some of them, even on cars I thought were pretty clean inside :o

Depends exactly how bad the water ingress has been I suppose, re the suggestion of replacing the sound deadening.

Steve

I am a valeter and have the equipment and chemicals to do the job, that's why I asked where he's based. Nice and cheap for Briskoda members, I know what it's like having stupid coloured seats lol

I'd bet my bottom dollar it isn't 100% dry right through the sound deadening material under the carpet.

It took about 4 months for mine to dry out and stop stinking. Even with my curtains :D

While it was drying out I used THESEto remove the smell.

In my car I glued a small piece of velcro to the bottom of the tin and I stick to the carpet under my seat.

When I change it I just pull the scented wadding stuff out and swap it into the velcro'd tin.

I got 3 months of scent out of my first one before needing to change it. keeping it under the seat keeps it out

of direct sunlight so its less likely to dry out and will last longer.

Also I'm a smoker but you'd never know it if you stuck your head in the car.

My personal favorite scent is the cherry :) 10/10 from me. Won't be buying any other type in future.
