1.9tdi estate poor fuel economy

Featured Replies

Hi all

Upgraded recently from my old octi to a 56plate tdi elegance estate. Lovely car, but am not sure if i have an issue with performance and economy.

Coming froma 1.6v petrol octi, the new one seems really flat in 1st and 2nd with very liitle pull, and i am getting just 40mpg (although is mainly through lanes witha bit of motorway).

Anyone have a similar car and had similar issues or do you think this sounds normal.

Many thanks

K

The 1.9PD has bags of low down torque, some say too much! so yes there is a definite problem with yours. you should also be getting 50+ mpg IMO.

Cheers for the reply, any ideas on possible fixes i could do myself or do you think a trip to the garage is needed. Thing is other than the problems mentioned it drives lovely.....

Hi K

I have an 10 plate 1.9SE PD estate. 6000mls now on clock. I average 53mpg on a tank full. Mainly motorway work (travel 180 miles to/from work) with a little local driving.

I do think MPG is subjective to quite a few variables so anything form 45 and upwards I would be happy with.

Power wise I have no problems with accelaration in 1st/2nd gear.

Hope this helps.

Maybe ask the dealer to take it for a spin?

Mine just doesnt feel right in 1st and 2nd i think there is definitely a problem, i was just blindlu hoping they symptoms would ring a bell with someone so i could at least go to the dealer with a bit of knowledge to avoid the trial and error method of fixing problems i seem to experience with garages.

Ideally you need a VCDS scan on the car to diagnose any fault codes the car has stored as there could be a number of reasons why the car is lacking low down torque.

Check the basics by all means air filter (these only get changed every 40K by Skoda - this is far too long IMO, I do mine every variable service) when the fuel filter was last changed etc, but don't start spending money unnecessarily until the car has been scanned.
