Ramps OR Trolley jack and axle stands?

Featured Replies

What do you DIY Mechanics/ Mechanics use and what would you advise I am planning to do basic stuff on my car.

Thanks in advance

Halfords have a trolly jack / 2 ton axle stands / crawlboard for €75 euro on the Irish site, maybe £50 STG in the UK, looks like it would do the job.

Finally got the axle stands and trolley jack from 'Machine Mart'. It was a mission finding the place...YESTERDAY put the postcode into my rather old Tom Tom the place was meant to be on Manchester Road, Altrincham I ended up in Warrington!!! So I thought I would try it again today did not bother with the postcode and found it fine!

You must have done something interesting with TomTom the first time round then - as both Machine Mart and Manchester Rd have been there sometime :)

Me thinks you might have entered WA4 instead of WA14 into TomTom, as the first part of the postcode :smirk:

Anyway, glad you're sorted.

Back on-topic, I just use a trolley jack and stands. Tried ramps for something on my Focus which had lowering springs and the skirt on the bottom of the front bumper didn't even clear them. So I went and bought a trolley jack there and then, and it's done the job ever since

Cheers,

Steve

Could be the case!!! Anyway am I going to need to use some kind of wooden block with the axle stands as well? Surely they could have designed the jacking points better?!!!
