Glow Plug System Warning Light Flashing CR 170 Engine

Featured Replies

Wife was driving the LE (CR 170) normally a couple of hours ago, just after a roundabout the Glow Plug System Warning light started flashing, continous flashing symbol, severe lack of power, turbo has stopped working, no boost at all.

Car is still drivable but anything over 40mph is a real drag,

Of course checking the old girl (LE not SWMBO!) in for a service at my local Skoda dealers to check this out.

Manual is a bit ambigous about what fault is (Page 36), "If the warning light [Glow Plug System] begins to flash while driving, a fault exists in the engine control. The engine management system selects an emergency programme which enables you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentel style of driving"

Anyone had a similar experience with the CR 170 engine. Milage 9929. Hmmmmmmmm interested in any experiences CR 170 owners have had with this light coming on.

The dealer should sort this out under warranty. They may need to fit a new sensor - happened to me on my PD140 but wasn't a long job

1 Year warranty has passed on my car Paul (June 2010). But a bit dismayed that this is happening on a car with 10k on the clock TBH.

If you're in the UK then you have 3 years warranty or 60k miles.

Cheers Shark for the info. Control System For Exhaust light is now on all the time, another pointer to the Exhaust Gas Pressure Sensor being whacked, where would I stand with these parts failing at this point in the car's history? Car bought brand new front discs failed at 7k (My local Skoda dealer replaced those FOC after some contact with Skoda CS) I bought the car from a dealer in the South and it will need to go to a dealer locally 300 miles away!

Just about to call Skoda Roadside Assistance to come and pick up the car......Feeling a bit dopey about what the warranty cover is on this car!

N75 Tubro pressure valve has gone, that is the first diagnosis by the Skoda (VAG) Roadside assistance chappie who looked at it today.

Car away to local dealers and getting a loan car until unit is sorted.

Well at least there's a bit more certainty over the source of the problem.

As for the dealer support, it obviously doesn't have to be the supplying dealer that sorts the issue out for you...

You're free to use the one nearest to you. These things do happen sometimes, and that's what the warranty is there for.

Steve this is developing into a very funny situation, we have in our driveway a brand spanking new BMW 520d SE, Estate from Eurocar?. On hire first 2 days are from Skoda Breakdown Assistance, after 2 days our local Skoda dealer then have to pay for the car hire, this is now day 3 passed, tmrw is day 4. When I first called our local dealer about the problem, I was told the car could not be looked at for 9 days (working days - 2 weeks almost). That was after they enquired if I had bought the car from them (I got the car delivered to me from another Skoda dealer). Hmmmm, all very daft if you ask me, I have bought a brand new Skoda with 3 year warranty - my advice to anyone is that you should use the Skoda assistance if the car breaks down (I daftly tried dealing direct with the local dealer). You may run into a dealer locally who grumble about doing work for you as the car was bought elsewhere. I saved £2K on the price I was being offered for the LE when I bought new from the dealer miles away. Got a better deal, where nicer to deal with, even delivered the car to me.

It's nothing to do with where the car was bought, so stick with it, it's not your fault and it's down to them to fix it (they'll get paid by Skoda UK to do the work under warranty).

Shark, I know but trust me I have had dealings with this dealer locally (old car - transferred within Skoda from another dealer) that make my toes curl. They try to insinuate that due to car not being bought from them you have to take whatever they say.

I am looking at the cost of a N75 valve which will be replaced under warranty! and the fact it is costing a daily hire of a brand new Beamer (Full leather, Sat Nav, SE model) to be ignored. I hope someone from Skoda is seeing where their profits are going down the drain on this. I actually want my car back! That is the daft point.

Any breakdown assistance is how I will go through this event again should it occur. Did I mention getting my front discs replaced at 7.7K? Again was a stink to get that covered by warranty as dealer suggested it was not under warranty.

I know some people have excellent experiences of Skoda dealers around the country ... I had one 300 miles away! But amazing what happens to some of us, my second VRS (first one was 1 year old - 1 year warranty) now this one, unfortunately the customer care that should be "skoda family wide" is not reality for many of us. I'd still consider a new VRS after this still wonderful cars, even if some of the experiences leave me a little perplexed.
