Door leaking on Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just wondering. Should Skoda fix the leaky rear doors on my Fabia vRS for free, even though it's out of warranty (Jan 2010)?

J

i wouldnt think so, but you could phone and ask,

I think there is a " how 2 " on this subject somewhere on the site

You'd be relying on a good will gesture, which may take some effort persuading them to give. There have been some examples of Skoda dealer's work shown here (left still leaking) and it was truly horrific with them making no attempt to smooth the sealant out and no seal made between the door and carrier at all. Do it yourself and do it right IMO, rather than pay for a bodged dealer job.

Yeah, we are crap in the dealer network.

:(

Even if they do from what I've read on here their repair

will probably fail. I did both mine today and from start to finish took

me an hour.

Get some replacement trim clips before you start though. Part number 5J0 867 276

I bought a bag of ten costing me about two quid. They are a different design

to the ones already there but they work just fine. The rubber gasket is

integrated on this type.

Without being a brute I still managed to break 7 out of 14 clips removing my

door cards. The originals had gone brittle over time I guess. They all

fractured at the top and stayed in the door. Had to pull them out with pliers.

Half a tube of mastic should be loads for two doors.

I used Shell tixophalte on mine. Pretty easy to use. Gave it the slippery finger

to smooth it. :D

I'm giving it overnight to cure a bit as it's bitumen based then it's getting

the hose treatment tomorrow but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I was very thorough as I only have 3 clips left

Edit...

I found these useful.

Cheers. To be honest, I had both back doors done (for free) just before the warranty went. But the back right still leaked. I had it done again at the 4th service and the dealer charged me £150 inc some part they had to order.

But after that heavy rain it still seems to be leaking

Hell yes. This is a known defect in manufacture and they should fix it.

There are an awful lot of imperfect technicians in the VAG dealer networks. And many of the good ones can't be a***d to do things with tar in the bottom of doors of cars that aren't made anymore. Sadly, when your VERY expensive main dealer has let you down, it tends to ruin your faith in all of them.

Sorry, but that's how a lot of us see it.

Hi,

I enquired about a Ltd. Edition 07 Plate Fabia the other week and the dealer said it had had the recall to fix the leaky rear doors??

Was this a formal recall Skoda put out, if so should all Fabia's of had it?

Agreed.

Mine cost me £2 to do.

1 hour of my time---- free

Sealant---- free ( My mate borrowed some from work :D )

Bag of clips £2.

Beats the hell out of having your car off the road for a day

and paying £150 for a repair that may well fail.

If my repair fails I'll have to do it again. But that would have to

happen 75 times in order to be more expensive than the stealer.

Wouldn't surprise me if this was because they knew it could only be 1000 claims.. and wet carpets + leather seats is not a good combination!

That is nothing short of scandalous  - I'm useless at anything practical so got my friendly garage round the corner to do it (he followed the guide on here) - charged me 30 quid and no problems since.

Skoda dealers seem reasonable for servicing but anything else seems to be a mask and pistols job.
