Traction Control Light on FL Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi

Just registered and this is my first post.

I have recently taken delivery of a new 1.2 tsi dsg elegance estate and this morning was pressing a few of the buttons to see what they did. I pressed the TCS button (to the right of the climate controls) and expected it to light up - but nothing happened.

A quick review of the manual seems to indicate that pressing the button should disable the traction control and that this is indicated by the dashboard light coming on - but I don't seem to get that either.

Just wondered if any of you that have also recently got one of the facelift models could tell me if this is normal or if you get the light coming on?

I have the bog standard ESP that comes with the DSG version.

btw - great site and the various topics have been a great source of info in my decision to get my first Skoda. 600 miles and so far it's been fantastic.

Thanks in advance for any help

Cheers

Hi (and welcome to briskoda!)

Having looked through the owners handbook I agree that a traction control symbol (with OFF) beneath it should light up in the lower left hand area/beside the fuel guage within the rev counter if TCS is switched OFF. The symbol would be yellow in colour -being a cautionary warning. If you can get the front wheels spinning with TCS ON you'll see the TCS symbol in the speedo 'flashing' - showing that system is 'active'!!

Wish I could confirm from my own experience but my wife's 1.6 CR Elegance hatch doesn't have ESP!!

What I can say is that in my Mk.1 vRS a yellow warning triangle with an exclamation mark inside it lights up within the speedo when ASR is switched OFF - just to remind you what you've done!!

Wouldn't be the first time the owners handbook was wrong. I take it you were trying this with the engine running?? From what I can see engine needs to be running for system to self-check!! The system will default to TCS ON when the car is next started. You can in the meantime be reassured that if there was a fault in the ESP system the ESP light within the speedo would be on!!

Hope this helps you.

Someone else may be along later with a more definitive reply. Enjoy your new car.

Regards

Alan

Hi and welcome,

my wife's TSI 85 has the ESP as an option, anyway just gone out to see what happens with ours.

Engine needs to be running then press and hold the button for about a second or so and the traction light comes on in the bottom of the rev counter dial and the words 'TCS Off' come up briefly in the Maxidot. Turn the engine off and back on again and the TCS has reset to 'on' again.

Hope that's of help.

See!! I told you someone would be along with a 'definitive' answer!! Good work TP.

Good to know the Maxidot also lets you know when you've switched TCS OFF!

Thanks to all - I knew I'd get the answer!

I'm not sure if I was blind this morning (it was 7am) or maybe I didn't press the button for long enough - but sure enough this evening, I pressed the button, the symbol lit up and Maxidot gave me the confirmation....I must try harder next time...

Thanks again
