Weird climate control problem

Featured Replies

Hello - I just signed up to this forum and was looking for some advice on a weird climate control issue on my '07 Octavia VRS (TFSI).

Basically, after extended driving (an hour or more), the cabin seems to get hot and the climate control doesn't maintain temperature. If you put the dial to LO, you can hear the fans whirring, but there is no airflow from the dash vents, even if you set the direction controls.

If you stop (say at a services), then when you restart it seems to sort itself out and work normally, but after more extended driving problem comes back.

Fortunately I'm under warranty until Nov. Dealer where I bought it has already looked once and concluded "there is no problem". When I rang back they were quite dimissive and suggest I try another dealer (booked in for thursday). Usually I only do local trips so don't get the problem, but on the last 3 long journeys I've done I had the issue each time. On saturday we had to have the windows open it got so hot.

Any ideas for things I can suggest to dealer?

EDIT - one extra thing, a couple of times when first starting the temperature warning light has come on. Once it beeped and the light flashed, the second occasion there was no beep but the light just flashed. Both times I turned off ignition and restarted and it went away. Not sure if relevant to above at all

I've had a couple of events on my 2010 Octy, where I thought that the system (climate control) wasn't putting out cold air. I had put it down to my imagination, but now I think it is probably happening.

Both times I had put the system on at a low temperature and then thought a few minutes later that it wasn't functioning - blowing air ok, but not at the right temp.

Both times I switched it off, turned it on again whilst driving along and no probs and working properly. I'll keep an eye on things, but at the moment my instict tells me that this is the kind of fault that dealers are usually useless at resolving.

Yeah they basically say if they can't see it, they can't fix it. I'll post an update after the new dealer (Adamson's in Deal) has had a look

Apparently the Diagnostics showed "sporadic" faults which they have "cleared". Sounds like a case of switching it off then on again aka The IT Crowd. Trip to Holland next week so will test

2 months later and the problem remains. Although now winter is here the same problem seems to be in reverse, cabin gets cold and climate control won't heat

Had a new CC unit and 2 subsequent re-visits to update software, but I'm basically back where I was.

6th visit to Skoda on thursday, warranty now expired but I'm insisting that it is covered as was reported ages ok. Skoda customer services friendly but seemingly unable to accomplish anything.

Skoda are recommending replacing a sensor in the evaporator apparently

"happy drivers" ?? :wonder: !!

Can understand the frustration because it would really annoy me too but it seems to be an oddball fault so one could understand the dealer may not have a ready solution? Lets hope someone else recognizes the issue and can hit the nail on the head.

I'll post an update once the dealer has had another try. If nothing else it might document the fault if someone else has similar in the future.

It's a shame because apart from that (and a few annoying "shopping trolley" dents), the VRS is by far and away the best car I've ever owned.

Hi, i am new to the forum. I googled my octavia climate control problem which brought me to this forum. I have excatly the same problem. Has anybody any idea what the cause is??

ta

I have a similar problem with a 54 plate Octavia.  Set the temperature to heat the cabin in the morning on my way to work (26 miles).  For a while it will push out nice warm air, then it will decide i must be too hot/falling asleep so I will get cold air all around the cabin. Sometimes even after turning the fan off competely I still get cold air blowing out.  Sometimes it works OK but more than likely I just have to settle for cold air.  I noticed it worked best just after I bought the car a few months ago, could pick a nice warm 26.5 degrees and get the correct temp blowing into the cabin.  Now, very likely to get cold air most of the time.

(same with the cruise control that worked fine for about 2 weeks then wouldnt turn on.. luckily I found out how to clean the contacts on the switch through this forum so thats fixed now :) )

Hi folks,

My car has been checked by an air con expert and been in the skoda garage for 2 days with no joy. Thanks to google and my presistence i saw an article that suggested the evaporator may be freezing due to incorrect information coming form the evap temp sensor. The symptoms being the air con worked at start up but after a period all air flow stopped. So i changed the sensor myself, 30 minute job and 26 quid from skoda. My aircon is now fuly working again. Whoop whoop.

cheers Keith

I seem to have the same / similar problem on a octi i have just purchase. (2012 plate VRS estate with 41,000 miles)

It works fine to begin with and then just decides to get really hot on all vents (sometimes just drivers vents - really hot!)   I have tried to do some testing but there are no particular settings that repeat the problem so it seems to be random.   Then it will start working again until you alter the settings and then it starts going mad again.   The last long jurned we realised that the AC part was turning on and off on its own as the car would mist up for 20 mins and clears its self (Guessing when the ac was working)

The car is covered by warranty and i am about to book it in......

I just wondered if there was any more information on this type of fault that i could supply to help solve the intermittent problem?

Many thanks in advance!
