5th Service...

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'll be putting my 2007 Fabia vRS in for it's 5th Service soon... nearly at 49k and will be a 50 in no time. Just wondering, how much does a 5th service cost roughly and what all does it entail?

Thanks,

J

isnt the 5th just an inspection ?

if so, about £130 at the dealers

I might help if you said what's been done previously but I assume you've had Inspection Services at 10k, 20k, 30k and 40k miles, and that a brake fluid change was made in 2009.

Hence the 50k service should be just an ordinary Inspection Service - say anywhere around £180-200

I've had the usual services at 10k, 20k, 30k and the 40k was carried out at 43k (late I know). Don't think the brake fluid was ever changed. Should it be?

I've been quoted around £130 for a 5th service, which I've been told will include changing all the filters and changing the oil.

Cheers,

J

Yes - not doing so risks water building up in the system leading to corrosion within the calipers. Every 24 months without fail...

That can't be a regular Skoda dealer at that price... [addendum - view now changed - see my later posting]

Robinsons in Norwich only charge £120 for a 10K service.

It sure is. Good dealership in NI...

I just don't see how garages can be doing a proper job at that price. I switched from the Gloucester dealer charging between £70-£80 an hour - despite it being a small garage out of the city itself - to the remoter Cinderford one charging about £60. However for an INSPECTION service requiring 2.2 hours according to Skoda that's still more than £120 without considering the high cost of oil and the other parts. I can't see how a Skoda garage can charge so little if they're really doing an Inspection Service for that price and not just an Oil Change one... It's difficult to find official Skoda garages quoting service costs - perhaps it's Skoda policy that they don't publish them. Also it's difficult comparing Skoda services with the slightly different ones often offered by independents. However I've found this very comprehensive list of service/repair costs from an independent garage

MARLOW VW

Interestingly they quote 1.6 hours for the basic service compared to the 0.7 hours quoted on the official Skoda fabiamrs.xls service schedule for an Oil Change service - I don't think after examination they're like for like. However examining the latter in detail I think I may have been misled by the times quoted therein since that schedule is based on a 20,000 mile pa car - and I can't find an option to reset to 10,000 miles pa. So perhaps the ordinary 10,000 Inspection service is 1.6 hours not 2.2 as I've previously surmised?

Nevertheless Marlow VW appear to be quoting 140+25 = £165 for a 10k service (1.6 hours), £264 for a 20k service (1.9 hours) and £324 for a 40k service (2.2 hours) - that's roughly in line with what I paid on my previous car - though the £49 for brake fluid is a bit more.

They're also quoting £290 for a cambelt + an extra £90 for a "recommended" water pump...

However Witherspoon in Leeds is currently quoting Minor Service £99 (presumably Oil Change?), Intermediate Service £113 (presumably 10k?), Major Service £194.90 (presumably 20k?), Timing Belt £250, MOT £30 - and £259 for two years servicing

And Alltecnique is quoting Standard Annual Service £117.50, Intermediate Service £225, Full Service £285 - their AC service is expensive at £76.37 but their brake fluid change is cheap at £29.38

And Audi VW Repair Centre is quoting Service A = £120, Service B = £165 without explanation as to A and B

So perhaps if a 10k service is only 1.6 hours then the £120 you're quoting isn't unrealistic, providing everything's done and the right oil is used...

I'll eat my hat !!!

For info I've bought a 2 year Skoda dealer fixed price service package with my 2007 car for £299. Whilst it doesn't include the cambelt change (for which I negotiated a £150 voucher) it might/should include brake fluid, and it will include the expensive 40k service so I'll effectively be getting a free annual service next July at 32k (currently on 25k).

Enough! let's do something other than internet surfing!
