Thinking about investing in a Vag Com lead.

How easy is it to use? Can I just plug it in and it tells me if there are any faults, or do I need a fair bit of knowledge on how to use it?

  1. Plug-in
  2. turn ignition key to first point
  3. select chassis type
  4. Auto Scan
  5. read fault codes and wonder WTF they all mean (if of course you have any) :giggle:

The leads and the software you can buy covers fault finding. The genuine bells and whistles version allows to change perimeters.

That's all I'm after, probably safer lol.

You can get them for a little under £20.

Yeah £19.95 :)

Then scratch your head and wonder why your bargain £20 cable doesn't work.

I think I paid £10 for my lead off ebay, which works fine with VAG-COM.

Actually, the Gendan lead is one of the few that do work reliably. I know lots of people who have this lead and they don't have a problem.

There are ones that look exactly the same (inside and out) on eBay and those don't work for long if at all.

That link doesnt do anything

But you could spend nearly £300, Scratch your head and wonder why your car doesn't work!emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

True, but at least the interface would work 'straight out of the box'.

Saint, this has been covered many times before by people who cannot get cheap cables to work, on here and every other VAG based forum I have visited, a search will bring these up.
