How easy to fit a new air con condenser?

Featured Replies

I'm not big on car parts but I've been told there is a hole in my Air Con Condenser part number 1k0820411q (which I'm told is the small radiator at the very front of the car)

The Skoda garage want to charge me £600+ to replace it, I've found the part for a lot less and have a neighbour who says he'll give me a hand fitting it but he didn't know how much work was needed to get to it and fit a new one, i.e. does the front bumper need to come off? and if so how much work is this?

If anyone can give me any pointers at all I'd be most grateful, thanks in advance

Tom

You have PM

Il check tomorrow as have the front end of mine in bits at the moment. The aircon rad is at the front on the 3 rads (intercooler behind it and then water rad before the fans) and i know that you have to remove the water and intercooler from behind the front panel by removing the fans first but not sure if the air con rad can be removed from the front. You will definately have to remove the bumper to gain access but will be easy to do if it will unbolt from the front panel towards you. Il let you know if someone doesnt before me.

You will need to take it somewhere to be regassed obviously.

Ive had a look mate and pretty sure you cant remove it from the front of the front panel so unless there is enough room to remove the fans and rads one at a time without removing the front panel then will be a few hours labour removing the bumper and front panel to get the rad changed unfortunately.

It'll need a pressure test, a new drier element, evacuating and a fresh charge of R-134a.
