Winter Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi

I would like to fit winter tyres to my 2007 VRS TDI

I am trying to find out the correct 16" steel wheel size for my car.

Mytyres say it should be 5-hole steel wheel: 16 inch 5 x 112.00 x 57.00 ET: 50.00 they will be fitted with 205 55 r16 tyres

I have rang Skoda UK customer services and they will not tell me what size wheel I require

Can anyone confirm that these are the correct wheels before I order ( mytyres will not guarantee they will fit)

All your sizes are correct apart from the centre bore, this is 57.1mm (not 57mm)

I drive a 2008 VRS TDI estate on 225/40 R18 summer tyres.

Ordered 16" steel rims specifically for winter tyres directly from my Skoda dealer who knew immediately the correct spec, as confirmed by last post. They cost approx £45 inc. VAT each. (BTW they have the audi logo stamped on them so must be common to a number of VAG models). Ordered Vredestein Wintrac Extremes 205/55 R16 94V XL with rim protection ridge from mytyres and my dealer fitted them to the steel rims and on to the car for a nominal charge as it was in for servicing anyway.

I cannot overstate how good this combination was in icy, snowy and wet weather and I will be putting them on again between November and April again. I actually found the handling of my vRS improved greatly, presumably due to the narrower tyres and higher sidewall profile. Check your manual but if I remember correctly the winter tyres have to be inflated by 0.2 bar greater than the quoted pressures for summer tyres.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick replies

I am going to get Nokian tyres

That's a pretty good price from a dealer for the steel wheels. And good service fitting the MyTyres order for you too. A lot of them wouldn't go to those lengths.

Who was the dealer?

Steve

Silly question, do you have to inform your insurance company of the wheel change as they aren't factory fitted ?

No harm in asking them and you would certainly be better off knowing the answer now rather than arguing the toss if you need to make a claim.
