Hello Jon - are you referring to my original issue of the audio being muted and the sat nav not responding in my previous post? MIne was delivered in April 2010 so Im guessing the update is fairly recent?Thanks.

The software is only for cars with the sound system option (the only ones to have the amplifier) , and is supposed to rectify "cut outs" in sound when: listening to the radio, navigating, listening to music via aux and MDI.

The new software was introduced at the factory in calendar week 21, 2010.

There is also new software for the Columbus unit with part number 3T0 035 680 ( used until week 50 in 2009).

This software is supposed to rectify lots of customer complaints:

The customer claims one of the following symptoms:

• The radio navigation unit RNS asks spontaneously (sporadically) for PIN code;

• The operation of the navigation is only possible with the navigation DVD inserted;

• The radio navigation unit RNS switches off, is restarted with a possible acoustic symptom of clicking / cracking into the loudspeaker;

• The radio navigation unit RNS loses the memory with radio stations;

• The radio navigation unit RNS is activated very slowly;

• No sound;

• Sporadic failure to display PDC on the RNS display when engaging reverse gear before RNS has been started;

• Humming, rushing, cracking noises in the loudspeakers;

• Frozen starting screen / picture with the „LOGO“ of the introductory Škoda screen;

• Sporadic failure to display „Volkswagen Navigation“ or „Skoda Navigation“ in the audio menu in the instrument cluster;

• Displaying a nonexistent rear obstacle when vehicle is equipped with PDC;

• Sporadic failures of RNS and Audio in Audio menu in the instrument cluster.

Old SW number: 0804, 0904, 1104 and 1164.

New software: SW 2684.

Hope this helps you!

  • 7 months later...

Looks like you had a great holiday, I am planning on doing the same next year, but going to Los Montesinos (near Torrevieja) I was going to head for Paris from Calais and keep going straight down over the Millau bridge, eventually hitting the coast and turning right until we get to the border and pick up the AP-7.

Google maps shows it is 1500 miles and will take 25 hours. However I have heard that it will cost £280 in toll roads in both directions, so £560 spent before a drop of diesel is added, this is causing the wife some issues as we can fly there for £100 each....

She just doesn't understand that the journey is part of the holiday. Any advice on toll avoidance? or routes to take?

Jamie

I am driving to Spain, starting Thursday this week. My Route to Huelva (just west of Seville) is. Stevenage, Folkstone, Calais, Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Bordeaux, Burgos, Valadolid, Salamanca, Seville, Huelva. These are the major towns en-route, expected Journey time is 2.5 days. I hope to be there early afternoon Saturday.

Day 1, 700 Miles,

Day 2, 400 Miles,

Day 3, 400 Miles.

Tolls are not really avoidable on such a long journey as the time taken increases dramatically. There are toll roads in France and Spain, and in Spain you cannot avoid them unless you want to drive on dirt tracks or poor local roads. In France its possible but I would rather be doing 130KMH on the motoraway than follow an A road through all the 30mph towns,

The route you have selected is very expensive on tolls, since you are driving in areas of major cities. On my route, apart from France I have a short stretch of Toll motorway in spain and the rest is free, whereas the AP7 (A7) along the coast has very long toll sections.

Your passenger had better get used to the tolls, since they will be paying them for you.

One tip, in France do not buy your fuel on the motorways its about 20c more per litre than in town at a supermarket or hypermarket. When I need fuel, I exit where I know the supermarkets are and fill up there and save a small fortune in fuel. Does not matter in spain, since fuel prices are dictated by the government and are the same on or off the motorway,

Thanks for your advice, I will re calculate the route, I know the road you are going as I have been to La rochelle and St Giles in the Vendee region.

Have a safe trip.

what a nice trip!

I'm looking for a 1.8TSI Yeti,still don't know the time when it come.

thanks for your sharing exprience with the car and those great photos.
