Where's the car's total mileage shown?

Featured Replies

Hi

I've recently bought a new 1.4 TSI (122bhp) Octavia SE and am very pleased with it. (I had to buy another car as someone seriously knocked my previous one off the road with a Fabia. So I thought I'd join the Skoda club myself!)

I'm gradually finding my way around my new car, but am disappointed that the User Manual seems to apply to every model under the sun and it's often far from easy to know whether or not I've got this or that function in my own car.

One thing I'm really stuck on is where to find the car's total mileage. I've got to grips on the trip computer with the two trip mileages in the centre of the panel that you can reset by the buttons on the right-side steering-wheel stalk. There are also two mileages on the bottom of the computer screen: one says 'trip' and I don't seem to be able to zero that, and the other (which shows a higher mileage) seems to be the mileage for the next servicing (and I clearly don't want to touch that, as the User Manual warns). But where is the car's total mileage, please -- the one that should not be resettable? The pictures in the User Manual, although it's an up-to-date one, show an older version of the computer screen layout.

Any advice gratefully received.

By the way, it's most interesting browsing other people's problems and answers. What a lot you realise that you don't know!

Best regards

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome to Briskoda

Just wondered if it is like the Fabia 2 when you take turn ignition off the total miles will be displayed but once the ignition is on you get the trip computer.

Hello Mike and welcome!

Your instrument cluster must look something like this ...

The total distance is the big number.

To reset the trip, press for about 2 seconds the knob to the right of the little screen.

To display the next service, turn left the knob to the right of the little screen and the screen will change to the following..

Hope this helps...

welcome, it is in the bottom right of the computer screen, but when driving it gives the speed in KMH, well it is on mine and I dont have maxidot btw...

Thank you, sojourner_mer (#4) and lozparry (#5), that helps a lot for my 1.4TSI SE (that is, no maxidot or climatic control).

I can now zero the bottom trip OK. That means we have no less than three trip mileages! One in the centre that resets itself after a couple of hours, the other one in the centre that stays put (until you zero it), and this one at the bottom. Wow!

Yes, sojourner_mer, I can now display the next service but all I see is a line of dashes -- no number.

Does this mean that the next service is not set on my car?

If that's so, can I do it myself without having to shell out for the expensive VAG that I read about elsewhere in these forums?

Presumably the service mileage counts DOWN from 20000 miles (or 30000 km presumably) and warns the driver when it's getting near the time for servicing?

It senses your driving style to determine what mileage you can do till next service, you just haven't done a distance or time it can calculate yet, hence the ---- OK

Thanks, bluvrs2. I'll just have to be patient, won't I? It'll feel a bit like "big brother is watching you" now you've told me that!
