Knocking Issues

Featured Replies

Hi

I seem to have some knocking noises coming from my Fabia vRS. I think they may be separate issues. They are:-

1. Clonking noise when applying brakes. Brakes work fine, but sometimes they make a noise when using them. i.e. first time you use them in clonks, if used again within a short period they are silent.

2. Clonking noise when disengaging clutch. Not sure if it does this everytime, but can definetely hear it when window is open.

3. Clonking noise at idle. Heard it yesterday when engine is cold. Seemed to occur irregularly every 20-60 seconds and slight vibration felt in car.

I've read a bit on here about the DMF. Just wondered if 2 & 3 could be the first signs of this going, but it doesn't sound like "someone hammering their way out of hell".

Thanks for the replies

Hi!

I have an 07 Fabia VRS SE which had same knocking noises from front as listed 1 and 2 altho not heard at 3!

Visit to local garage and a change of anti roll bar and bushes cured problem completely. They had worn and as a result every time car was moved forwards or backwards this put strain on worn bushes which caused joints to clunk!!

Good luck and hope this helps

Thanks for the info, now booked in.

I guess 3 could be the air con compressor kicking in and out causing a slight jolt (air con was off, but I've read that it never is completely disabled).

Turn the aircon on?

Hi Timewarp,

I think Wigits right. Anti roll bar bushes.

I changed mine last week, no knocking now. €8 the pair at my local motor factors. just check whether 21 or 23 mm required.

Easy fit if you have axle stands a 13mm socket and maybe a 17mm to undo one of the stabilisers for access.

Try that first.
