Octavia Door card/trim removal (Dec'07 Claasic 1.9TDi,DSG Estate)

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a intermitant "screech" when I operate my front drivers side electric window, my car has electric front windows only.

How do I remove the door card / trim, I have seen pics on how to do this on this site, but this is for a car with 4 door electric windows.

I have found out how to remove the mini speaker with the electric mirror adjust switch.

I believe I have to lift the top half of the plastic door pull, but this seems to be fixed solid or does it need a bit of brut force somehow?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

thanks in advace.

Hi Jerseyman, the squeeking is probably due to the rubbers "drying out" and does not really require the removal of the door trims, it is relatively easy but can lead to frustration. I would suggest squeezing SWMBO's talc in the runners with the windows down then operate a few times hope this works .... if not the car well smell nice for a little while......

Hi

I tried roynhayley kind suggestion of applying talc to my window rubbers, but this did not fix the problem - either SHMBO's talc is the wrong type (!) or it is something else. But I suspect it might be this as when the sun heats the side of the car, no squeak.

So I might have to remove the door card/trim, but this leaves me wondering how to remove this - do I lift up the top plastic door handle?

If so, how & do I use some force & which direction?

thanks again in advance.

Quite difficult to describe, take the arm rest first. The switch panel has to be lifted at the front and then pulled forward to release the rear but the clips are tight. Quite a lot of force is required and it is difficult to avoid marking the plastic.Use one or two flat bladed screwdrivers. The switches can then be disconnected, from memory you may have to push back a coloured locking clip to release the wiring plug. There are three screws behind the panel which have splined heads. There is also a screw behind the small panel at the inside door handle/ electric mirror switch. There are three screws at the bottom of the door to be removed. the main door card can then be forced off from the bottom. It is held on by around 10 clips and it is likely some of these will break.

Once these are released I think the door card has to be lifted to release at the window, difficult to recall. You then have to disconnect the plugs to the light at the bottom of the door and also the mirror switch. You may need help with this to avoid pulling the wiring too much. This is only a rough guide from when I had to do this on my own car.

I've just realised that after all the above, removing this trim does not give you access to the winder mechanism, for that you need to drill out the rivets and, personally, I couldn't work out how to release the window from the winder mechanism. The earlier model seems to be simpler in this respect.

Modern cars, don't you love them!! Incidentally, I set off the airbag warning light when I had to move my car with some wiring disconnected, be careful!
