Maintain performance of SMIC/FMIC

Featured Replies

I will be installing an OCC and as part of an attempt to stop carbon deposits stealing bhps and turning my noble steed into some wheezy spluttery work horse,...

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with cleaning the SMIC? Specifically on a MK1 RS OE (not sure if design of the IC dictates what is possible in terms of cleaning).

My best find seems to be a rejuvenating steam treatment (might ask the wife to take my SMIC wiv her next time she indulges in spa luxury) The process forces hot pressurised steam through the intercooler and lifts deposits.

It comes highly recommended, but I am looking for 1st hand experience.

thanks

I'd be tempted to use a degreasing foam spray, and let it dwell. Then wash out with hot water. Repeat until the water runs clean and it doesn't feel oily inside. Then let it dry fully and re-fit.

I have been using this for a few years on engines and carburettors, and it works a treat: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_191162_langId_-1_categoryId_165750

Breaks the oil down and allows it to be washed away with water.
