octavia sunroof

Featured Replies

Reading through the posts, I also thought the sunroof was small and the fact that it did not go all the way back I thought was a not pointless. Just tried the switch, and wow what a difference. Both the glass and the shade disappear. After 4 weeks, I have a proper sunroof!!

im the same, had my car six months and didn't know it opened up fully, thanks everyone for sharing this, maybe i ought to read the manual next time lol.

Intrigued by this opening business and love to try it but it never stops raining . . .

OK I have been a bit slow on all counts here but my sunroof does finally open like I would expect it to and as some of you have pointed out. It was odd it took so much effort to turn the control which probably explains why I had never forced it.

Thanks to all for pointing this out, I would probably have gone on for ever badmouthing the sunroof. There is some consolation in knowing that others have been equally surprised.

Sunroofs? Been forced to have them several times. Hateful things that reduce headroom and creak and rattle when it gets below freezing. Give me climate control every time.

If I want sunshine I'll park my car.

Hmmm, sounds like a bit of negativity there ;)

Sunshine while driving though, that's the bonus  Never once had headroom issues or creaks/rattles with one either. Even with a Fabia so equipped, in -15 celsius temps...

Sunroof and climate - then you get to choose which to use, and when

My vRS estate has a sunroof which I left in the tilt position yesterday as the weather was nice, only for the alarm to go off after about 10 minutes. Reset it and it went off again. Closed roof reset all was fine! Is this normal operation? We used to have a mini convertible that you could lock with the roof down and the alarm would only go off if you lent into the car!

Do others press the button on the pillar every time they leave the suroof open?

Do others press the button on the pillar every time they leave the suroof open?

yup, always have to do this with mine if leaving the roof or windows open

Isn't it also possible to double press the lock button on the key fob to deactivate the alarms interior sensors?

Or does this just turn off the deadlocks?

Again, I should just read the manual!

I've always liked sunroofs on cars. Shame they seem to be less and less common as AC and climate control take hold. Both have their place though I think and it's nice to sometimes get some 'proper' air into the car, along with the light that it brings into the cabin. It does seem a pretty high price to pay though, so I can understand why people don't spec them when they're never available as std equipment.

Same here, as I was looking to buy an Octavia second hand there seemed to be an almost zero chance of finding one with a sunroof so I'd immediately given up on that. I think the Octavia cabin feels like it would benefit from the extra light of a sunroof plus I do like getting a bit of fresh air in through it.

I'll try and save you the job of reading the manual ;) . Although I've not yet put this information to the test, I think this is the relevant extract:

Safe securing

The central locking system is equipped with a safe securing system. Locking the

vehicle from the outside causes the door locks to be automatically blocked. It is not

possible to open the doors with the door handle either from the inside or from the

outside. This acts as an effective deterrent for attempts to break into your vehicle.

You can deactivate the safe securing system by locking twice within 2 seconds.

If the safe securing system is not operating, the warning light in the driver door flashes

for about 2 seconds fast, goes out and starts to flash slowly again after about

30 seconds.

The safe securing system is again activated the next time the vehicle is unlocked and

locked again.

The doors can be opened from the inside if the vehicle is locked and the safe securing

system is deactivated:

The door is unlocked by actuating the door-opening lever.

The door opens upon actuating the door-opening lever again.

WARNING

If the vehicle is locked from the outside and the safe securing system is activated,

there must not be any person and animals in the vehicle as it is then not

possible to open either a door or a window from the inside. The locked doors

make it more difficult for rescuers to get into the vehicle in an emergency -

hazard!

Note

The anti-theft alarm system* is also activated with the deactivated safe securing

system when locking the vehicle. The interior monitor* is however not activated.

Oh and here's another nice option if you have both Maxidot and the rain sensor installed:

Rain closing

On vehicles with rain sensor you can switch on or off the

function for automatic closing of the windows and the

sliding/tilting roof in case of rain and locked vehicle. If it is

not raining and the function is set, the windows including

the sliding/tilting roof are closed automatically after

approx. 12 hours.

And one more:

Convenience operation

You can also close an open sliding/tilting roof from the outside (note: this will also close any open windows).

– Hold the key in the locking cylinder of the driver's door in the lock position or press

the lock button of the remote control until the sliding/tilting roof is closed.

The closing operation stops when one releases the key or the lock button.
