octavia sunroof

Featured Replies

i have ordered a vrs with a sunroof which i really fancied at the time of ordering.

i notice someone has mentioned that the sunroof is disappointing as it is too small

has anyone else found this to be the case ?

I have it in mine. Its a normal size, not a huge panoramic thing that some cars can have - compared to that then I guess the Octy one is small.

Too small for what exactly? It lets a nice amount of light into the cabin (mainly front it has to be said) and I'm impressed as to how quiet it is when fully tilted. I only got mine as it was an error not listed on a car from stock, I wouldn't have paid the large amount of money £650+ for it myself.

I had said it was small. It measures 80cm across by 40 cm along the roof but where I found it disappointing was that it only opens 21cms at its maximum extent,

As to whether 21cms is big or small is probably subjective. Either way it is well made and adds to the car.

are you sure it doesnt open all the way? mine used to.

the open went to an "ideal" position for wind noise. If you wanted it open all the way back you had to turn to the open position then hold it there till it was fully open. its in the manual if ive explained it badly

I will check that, must admit I haven't looked into it that much . . .

 its an easy thing to miss unless you're really bored one day and read the manual front to back!

Thats how mine works, the rotary switch has the extra position for fully open.

Yes, keep the rottary switch turrned and it will go to the end.

I have also put the "KCD609003 - Wind deflector for sunroof" on mine and i keep the sunroof open all the way and get a quiet slow breeze at any speed.

Wow! After 4 years of wondering why the sunroof didn't open fully I went out in the rain tonight, turned the control an extra notch - and it does! Thanks, guys. Now a big enough opening for anyone - and after all, it's the fresh air and sunshine you're after rather than the view. If it's a really panoramic view I'm after, I'll take out our Smart Mk II with a full width/depth polycarbonate roof (plus sunshade). Now that's panoramic!

I've always liked sunroofs on cars. Shame they seem to be less and less common as AC and climate control take hold. Both have their place though I think and it's nice to sometimes get some 'proper' air into the car, along with the light that it brings into the cabin. It does seem a pretty high price to pay though, so I can understand why people don't spec them when they're never available as std equipment.

When we bought our 2006 L&K Estate I ticked most of the option boxes, including the sunroof. Then the idiot boy assistant salesman (there's always one of them) said "Wow - we've never have had anyone order all of them". After which he was metaphoirically clipped around the ear by the proprietor and despatched to the back room.

Three days later I rang up and said (after consulting many others on the forum) "Please, can I have Xenons as well?). The answer was that you could amend your order up to 7 days after placing it - presume that's still the case. So I did, and have never regretted it.

Agree, the price they charge seems more like "please don't bother ordering". Mine cost about 600 pounds.

Apart from fresh air, i love it when i'm driving slowly through mountains with sunroof open, feels like your walking outhere :)

Thought xenons were standard on the L&K? Or have I just made that up in my head?!

I do like my sunroof on my se spec'd 2010 fl car, i didn't know you could get the sunroof to go further than it did though, must try when i go out later, it makes such a difference weather its open or closed to the cabin and its great when pottering about with it open, i will be ordering one for my next octy, vrs next time.

Love my sunroof ... well worth the cash.

Read about the full open thing in the handbook but haven't tried it yet.

Cepi - your Scout looks the business. I toyed with cap beige and eventually went for satin grey - beginning to regret that! Great pic.

Thx mate. I went for a darker color as mud and dust is all over the place here, so it wouldn;t be seen much and it takes it well.

Intrigued by this opening buisiness and love to try it but it never stops raining . . .

I love thus forum.

I ordered a sunroof in my l&k as my last three cars have been French all with panoramic roof's. (only two opened, th last a Peugeot 407 did not)

So when ordering my l & k I wanted a bit more light. Also, for the first couple of weeks after picking it up I hardly had the climate on. Having the roof tilted even on the motorway is not noisy.

Reading through the posts, I also thought the sunroof was small and the fact that it did not go all the way back I thought was a not pointless. Just tried the switch, and wow what a difference. Both the glass and the shade disappear. After 4 weeks, I have a proper sunroof!!

im the same, had my car six months and didn't know it opened up fully, thanks everyone for sharing this, maybe i ought to read the manual next time lol.

We had one fitted to our '09 Estate, I thought at the time it was a tad expensive but SWMBO was keen however she now admits a bit disappointed as it is quite small compared to our previous Subaru Forester 's moonroof which more of a square shape and in winter, with the sunshade pushed back and roof closed, gave a much lighter and more airy feeling than the Octavia's. The Octavia's however is quieter when open at moderate speeds and nicely made. Whether its worth it probably depends on if you spend a lot of time on motorways when it's not much use however if you spend more time on rural roads, like we retired folk, then it can be very pleasant. However to be honest if we ordered another Octavia then the answer is we probably wouldn't bother with a sunroof.

They weren't standard in Spring 2006 - maybe before or after....?
