New Lows

Thanks to the guys at Awesome GTI for recommending these over a Koni spring/damper combo, you were right, they would never have gone low enough...

After half of my saturday swearing at my bleeding knuckles, the AP coilovers are on and she's finaly sittin' pretty, if not a little filthy (she was clean at the weekend honest ;) )

Before anyone says the front is higher than the back I'm seeing if they settle a bit more at the front before I consider either giving the front another wind down or putting the rear adjuster cups back in (I think I've already made up my mind... she only scrubs a bit when there's people in the back B) )

Looks spot on!

looks nice.

looks quite smart, and no I didn't steal it, I swopped it for my mums when I visit her, she hasn't noticed ;)

Looks good fella. How much did you pay for them?

Also how is the ride?

  • Author

Paid full whack at Awesome, £396 including VAT.

The ride is suprisingly comfy, Its actually much better than the lowered springs on standard dampers I was running previously, even my ever cynical housmate commented on how much better the ride was when I gave her a lift the other night. Full lock is no problem, so far no scrubbing or noises from the front, had a couple of buzzes of the back tyres on the plastic arch liners when I had passengers in the back, but only when hitting dips in the road at speed, so far so good

Looks great! Selling the springs you had on previously? ;)

I'm actually giving them away, but I think you've been beaten to them already...

That's what I like to hear B)

My wallet, on the other hand... :giggle:

think ap coilies are my next mod, do you know if theyre supplied with this extra hose (adlavs thread about problems)

i have weitecs on now and iv wound the back right down and cant get that low, what are the adjuster cups?

the front on mine is quite low and "sump safe" :) although can go another 7 threads if i fancy laying my sump on the road for a bit and having no front bumper :)

Elliott

the adjuster cups are what you use to raise / lower rear ride height

these can be threaded right off the adjuster threads to just leave the threads behind, gaining another 20mm at the rear

Looks nice.

I might have a metal sump guard available shortly, if anyone's in any need? ;)

Steve

sump guard yes please lol, mine seems to sit about that low at the back an ive still got the adjusters in, got kw v1's if there any different, they 18"alloys too, be interesting to compare the ride as im on 18's

 Great work mate, sits very nice.

does look well emoticon-0103-cool.gif ....although i wouldnt want to get rid off my 'adjuster cups' as mine catches on the rear already [running 20mm spacers....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif]

Liking this alot, what are the alloys?

I've read this thread, no they don't come with the sring covers or helper springs. I gave my strut bearings a good grease before I put the fronts on, I also put the plastic accordian strut guard thing in too and so far (I know its only been a week) they are silent, no noises (twangs, clangs or otherwise)

these can be threaded right off the adjuster threads to just leave the threads behind, gaining another 20mm at the rear

or alternatively the whole lot can be removed and just teh springs left in B)

Trevor, I guess you ride would be slightly harsher due to lower tyre profile, by about the same again as going from 16's to 17's?

Alloys are 17" RS6 [cough] replica's [/cough], 205 tyres with a little bit o' stretch goin on :D

RS6 Replicas hey, other than skoda wheels these are the only ones that suit the car i've seen, where did you get them from?

Hey, did you trim the cap down at all? Thanks

  • Author

^ nope, just put it on and gave it a good push till it clicked.

Cheers for closure there! Reading the how to, and It mentions about sanding a few mm off, but I aint got access to a belt sander!

just use a sheet of wet & dry or a file - you deffo don't need a belt sander, but will need to take about 5mm off the cap.
