Fabia came within seconds of being stolen

Featured Replies

03:50 this morning.

I tend to wake up every two hours for some unfathonable reason, and did so last night.

This time though, through my slightly opened bedroom window, I heard a clicking noise, ( key blip I assume) and then the sound of the Fabia starting, then stalling repeatedly.

This went on for a short while, but in the haze of my sleepiness, it didn't initially register what was actually going on.

I thought it must have been young Ree making an extremely early start for work and was merely de-misting the screen before settting off.

The noise of the car repeatedly starting and then stalling continued however, so I looked at my watch yet again, suddenly believed and realised that this was really just too early to be true, and thought, summat isn't right here.

In a fit and sudden surge of adrenelin, I darted out of my pit, and opened the window.

Scumbag obviously saw me, flung the car door open, and ran down the road at the speed of light.

Quickly got dressed, told Mrs Ree to ring the rozzers, and flew out to track this chancer down, quickly in conjunction with the Police.

They did in fact find someone 30 minutes later.

Police dog grabbed and bit him on the arm apparently when he tried to throw a punch at him (the dog)...oh how we all laughed....when he tried to run off when the cops approached him, but after much investigation, he's been released without charge this afternoon.

Meanwhile, and just two miles away, someone elses house was being broken into, keys taken, and car driven off.

Caught on an ANPR camera minutes later adjacent to the M53 motorway.

The suspicion is apparently that a new gang is now hiring scrotes again to come over 'the water' from Liverpool to steal and clone.

They.ve had success in the past, and the previous mob caught are currently banged up.

This all adds up, as Mrs Rees hand bag and Miss Rees school bag that actually looks like a large handbag, with her A level course work and personal possesions inside, were both found outside in next doors garden, with the contents, including credit and debit cards, various random keys (but no car keys) and a small amount of cash in both, scattered across their garden.

They were obviously solely looking for the car keys and came back in here and found them on a shelf in the back room, not actually that easy to spot either tbh.

I consider myself to be one of the luckiest in the UK today.

Thouroughly exhausted now after 'entertaining' crime Investigation units, CID, and dictating a statement with associated discussions.

Nothing but praise for the Police, for their rapid response. We're talking literally no more than the two minutes it took me to get to the main road through our village before I was confronted by two rapid blue light flashing cop cars.

Very lucky teddy here tonight, and am so pleased to say that scummy chummy did NOT have the intelligence to either find reverse gear, or take the key out of the ignition before he fled.

Damage to young Rees rear bumper is minimal, where the Fabia was repeatedly pushed against his car whilst the one cell dead brained t*** unsuccessfully was trying to find reverse..

Sorry if this explantion is a bit scatty, I'm absolutely exhausted.

Bloody eck mate, glad the cars still in your possesion and more importantly you and your family are ok.

I notice you mentioned the M53, where abouts are you? I live in Childer Thornton.

Brother-in-law's a copper, and advice to me with all these cuts coming is GET A HOUSE ALARM ASAP!

I would urge everone to get one to cover entry points.

I think we discussed this a couple of weeeks ago, in my 'petrol in the fabia' thread, remember?

Little Sutton, just off the A41.

Citroen C4 VTR stolen with keys from Fairways Drive btw.

I feel for the owner, I really do.

This is NOT an experience I want ever again, even though I'm a lucky one.

Really shook the tribe up it has, knowing some low life scummy sweaty spotty oink was wandering around inside here whilst we were upstairs kipping.

Trouble with alarms though Gadget' is that nobody bats an eyelid when they go off now. Just a roll of the eyes, and groan of, "oh no, here we go again"

How did they get in?

released without charge!!?? WTF????

Insufficient evidence, and with this other burglary going on just 1 hour later that was virtually identical, I can see where they are perhaps coming from.

The clothes I described that chummy had on, did not match the ones he was found to be wearing.

His 'previous' that he has, did not include any motor related offences or burglary. I know, there's always a first time.

Sadly I wasn't privee (sp) to all the info or interviews to make an accurate assessment, so just have to rely on what limited info they pass on to me.

They have promised to keep me informed if anything new comes to light.

Most impressed, and they have gone up in my estimation after all the attention they have given this case.

Just hope the scrote doesn't come back tonight for another attempt.

Think I'll start keeping my spare keys in my bedroom....

Didn't they think to take fingerprints from your car?

But a small terrier - guarding his own territory - more vicious/noisy and determined than any Rottie and whilst a Rottie goes for throats - the terrier makes a bee line for the more sensitive organs . And , they take less exercise and food . Scroats don't like them -they draw too much attention and might just reach the bits that scroats GF might miss .

How did they get in?

I was dreading someone was going to ask that.

I'll come out straight.

Mrs Ree left the back door in the kitchen unlocked.

I have never known this to happen before, and partly blame myself now for not checking what she normally does.

She was absolutely livid with herself, and me with myself too.

The one night we leave it unlocked, and THIS happens. AGGGGGGGHHHH!

Good job the car didn't go, as I'm sure the insurance company would have been most understanding and sympathetic...NOT.

Fair enough. Seems a strange coincidence, are you sure it wasn't bumped or something?

These things happen.

They did indeed, but nothing showed up. Seems fingerprints are very hard to detect inside cars.

There was a print on the kitchen back door glass....of a glove.

Even I could see the impression of the fibres of it, doh.

This would explain why no finger prints were found anywhere.

Ah yeah, I had just got back from a run so wasn't thinking straight!

Im sure you can get CCTV systems for a few hundred quid now.

My parents have had CCTV for years and they have been broken into twice, the footage helped to get a conviction on both occasions :thumbup

I have given that some thought tonight, but these animals are well switched on normally, and have their hoodies up.

We've all been warned about increasing and rapidly spiraling crime now due to the recession.

I asked about taking all keys upstairs at night, and the copper reckoned that was a good idea, even though I have worries about these cretins then coming upstairs in frustration, waking you up and threatening everyone with violence if you don't give them the keys.

He reckoned that would an be extremely rare occurence, as generally these dead heads do not want any confrontation, as they also don't know who they are dealing with.

ALL doors double checked for being locked now, EVERY night, and car keys are coming up with me tonight.

A lucky escape there that's for sure! Good to hear positive reviews of the police too, always been good in my experience (work related mainly).

Just a tip (although it may have been covered, I skim read it) - if you have a PVC door like these lock the door with the key from the inside.

main2_99rg.jpg

On Road Wars or similar the police were showing how if it's left unlocked while the outer handle does nothing, the scum just stick a bent bar through the letter box and pull the internal lever down and walk straight in. Happened to someone down our road - they made off with a new Discovery and a couple of laptops, while someone slept in the front room.

Only plus side is no damage to the door.

No Triggs' , door locks are not like that here. Lock them inside or out, and they cannot be opened either side with the handle fortunately.

T'was the back door, so no letter box anyway.

Regarding the Disco, if the car wasn't found, did the insurance pay out, or is that deemed to be an insecure door lock, and therefore no payout?

Someone has stolen all the "Views" for this thread!! When I looked it had 17 replies and 0 views!!!!

Do you think it could be the same gang??

Glad they didnt get anything, but how did they get hold of the handbag??

You've lost me there tbh.

These things do indeed happen, so let my stupidity be a sharp lesson for us all ey?

Lock those house doors, even during daytime and even when you're in and awake would be my advice now.

Bumping the lock, is a term for breaking in by opening the lock with a specific (but easy to create) key and a bump.

It's well known and works on many locks that use flat keys.

If you're worried at all, I suggest getting up a locksmith and getting some high security antibump euro-cylinders to replace those in your door.

It's very easy to change over and the best thing is to take the old one out, then go up to the locksmith.

HTH

Are ALL of your house keys accounted for as well?Sure they didn't manage to grab a set of them as well? I think I might want to change the locks...

Feel for you, thankfully no-one was hurt and nothing too bad happened.

I'm not too far from you :S

Due to this issue I thankfully go around every night checking doors and windows are locked and keys and spares are hidden well. I read somewhere that someone had left all their keys by the front door (keyrack or bowl, you know the type of thing) and someone stuck a thin pole through the letterbox, hooked them, slide them down the pole, out the letterbox and made off with 3 cars.

I used to install alarms, if you can afford it go for a monitored alarm or one with a dialler, doesnt matter if the bell is ignored then, someone will know. They are also a good deterrent, 90% ish of houses that get broken into, dont have an alarm. Why break into a house with a potential noisy problem when you can break into one that has no problems at all? Its all about risk assesment as far as a scrote is concerned.

Let me know if you need any advice.

Even just some dummy (fake) bell boxes and cameras are a good deterrent, just make sure they don't look like dummy items. A seasoned scrote will know.

Trouble is Rhoob' I've been sucked into the dreaded pit of lethargy with associated carelesness like so many others, and it takes something like this to really shock you into action.

I'm still actually struggling to 1) believe it actually happened, and 2) come to terms with just how lucky I have been.

You think of all the thousands of homes in the surrounding 5 sq. miles of here, and you really do believe (foolishly) that it couldn't and won't happen to you.

Was this scrote really going around trying hundreds of house doors to see if they were unlocked.?

Must have thought it was Christmas when he tried ours.

The only good thing is that he must have absolutely crapped his nappy when he saw my face appear at the bedroom window.

I have never seen anyone run away from me so fast!

Future Olympic sprinter in the making I reckon, and he was a big t**t too.

The bloody cheek of these cretins beggars belief too.

I reckon it probably was him that stole the C4 just over a mile away, 1 hour later. To get there he'd have had to walk down the main road, and with cop cars buzzing all over the place, he was taking a very high risk of being caught.

It never happens to the filthy scrotes leading their charmed lives though, does it, and then he casually drives off down to the motorway to presumably take it back to Liverpool. Unbelievable, especially in the dead of night.

Thanks for your advice regrading security btw.

Any suggestions and advice will be gratefully received.

Usual problem of lack of money at the moment though.
