Just a thought....lowering and fuel economy

Featured Replies

although i love my fabia, iv had it a week now, compared to my old fiesta zetec s tdci its a rocket ship and the mpg is great! i was thinking.....as standard the car is seriously high! looks like a 4x4! That got me thinking, volkswagen fit lowering springs to their bluemotion range as standard, im presuming to make the car sleeker and more drag efficient, so has anyone measured this before and after? does it really do anything?

I have to buy a new trolley jack as the car is too low for mine to fit underneath, went underneath the old car no issues

difference would be so small would be very hard to measure mate. cant see how it would make a big difference though cause theres still air flowing under and over it

Agree with above I doubt by using the inboard mpg meter it would show any difference, the only way you'll see difference is to hand it over to a bunch of scientists with a wind tunnel!

Narrow, low rolling resistance tyres will make a far bigger difference. My old Furby combi was noticeably better on fuel when it was on 14" steels wheels with 185/60/14 Michelin Energy tyres than it was on 16" wheels with 205/45/16 Conti SportContacts.

ye thought as much, just thought they wouldnt do it for no reason thats all. :)

Lowering my car has improved my mpg no end! Though not because of a sleeker aerodynamic profile. I now drive slower and with a lot more care for fear of breaking something

HTH

Mine went up for the exact oppersite, now I can corner faster, iv no need to slow down and speed up again!!!

Agreed, though deserted roundabouts are far better on 4 sporty tyres than 4 eco tyres. :)

More involving with 2 sporty tyres on the front and 2 eco conacts on the back... but too unnerving for me....
