Variable servicing reset

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

The girlfriend got the first service done on the octavia today and it is a model that came with variable servicing and long-life oil. Its an 09 and has 18,900 miles on the clock .I told skoda dealer that I would like to keep it on variable and he serviced the car (allegedly) using the correct long-life oil. He then reset service trip I was expecting to see something around the 15,000 to 18,000 mark when I checked but instead 9,400 came up.

I questioned this with him and he said it was a mistake and he had to reset it again. This time nothing showed, like it had been removed completely or something. I questioned him again and he said that it will show again when it as around 1500 miles till its next service.

Am I being paranoid or this sound wrong? Does the engine/sump have sensors to detect oil quality or is that a myth? Is it possible they put standard oil in and charged for longlife?

When variable is reset the display changes to ------ for a period of time whilst the car recalculates the time to next service. So yes it should be blank for a period of time after the service.

And it has to be reset with diag equipment.

mine is being a pig too........it's on variable and did 17k between new and first service. Then somehow only 11k till next. Checked it out and noticed it was set to 18600kn instead of miles.

So got it reset again and after reading ---- for a while it started reading at 9000 miles and has been counting down since then. Tried reset again but it's not playing.

Will have to leave it until it's put itself right! Feel like i've wasted my money on Quantum longlife 3..........

Thats fair enough but I am not even seeing ------- this. Nothing is showing at all. Do you reckon it was set to standard servicing then with it showed 9400 originally. Should it have showed 10,000 on the button if it was?

On fixed it will show 9,400 not 10,000 as it's a conversion from KM and it comes on early to give you notice.

Got another dealer to check with diagnostics what they did today and apparently they turned off the service indicator altogether. Why the hell would they do this and not tell me? This is meant to monitor and advise when the next service is due. Pretty ****ed off to say the least. Im guessing the wrong oil is in there now as well.

As far as I know you can't turn it off altogether.

I thought that too but the other dealer confirmed it had been and he has changed it to variable now. It now reads - - - - with a liitle spanner beside it as said by another poster earlier.

Can well understand how you must be hissed off with this dealers' service department.

I would raise all hell if that happened to my car. Shear incompetence, probably the service was carried

out by some hooded greasy gorilla. I would be inclined to check the rest of the car most carefully to see

what other damage they might have inflicted on it.

I think for the benefit of all other members you should consider naming and shaming them.

All members who normally take their cars into this dealership could them write and say they are

not using their service any more due to reported poor quality workmanship.

Copies of all letters to SUK head office to let them know what's happening, and asking for an explanation.

The pen is always mightier than the sword and we jointly have the capability to do something about it.

No probs mate this is a great post and you are absoloutely right. I will defintely be taking this further. Just a note though that I am actually based in Ireland not the Uk but the dealer in question is O Learys in Enniscorthy Co. Wexford. Blatant lies will get them nowhere and plus they are in a small town and I will be letting alot of people know about this.
