cigarette burns in rear seat octy vrs help pls

Featured Replies

hi

a former friend of mine has left me a litle legacy of his last ride in my octy vrs

2x cigarette burns in the mesh on small split base

either need to repair or replace seat

anyone know of a good repair company as replacement

Ahh I see having read this after your other thread...doh.

If its just the cover you need then there are two options. Replace just the cover (I can get prices for you) and swap it over (not to tricky on a rear seat) or have a word with a nice chap on here called C.J. He deals with panel/trim repairs and might be able to help you out.

Have you said it to him. Did you let him smoke. If I caught anyone even attempt to light up in my car!

(Ex smoker's rant)

Give us a clue what area you live in stillstandard, as your profile tells me nowt.

just above london but willing to travel

Bit too far for me to help sadly...could do with the work at present too. Trade in post Crimbo doldrums 'round here.

The main problem with my solution is that it would probably only be a 'cosmetic repair'.

What that means is that IF the fag burn is in a high wear area...bum rubbing etc, it wouldn't stay looking too good for too long. It would rub out. If however it's in a low contact area, that would be worth attempting.

Is it near a seam by any chance? If so, then the burn can sometimes be cut out, and the 2 halves then re-stiched back together again leaving a virtually perfect/invisible repair.

Any chance of a photo?

have tried the cosmetic repair approach

guy came and dusted fibres on looks worse now than before as mesh makes the lack of pattern stand out

know of any way to get a new panel of mesh cloth

Could you do it by post CJ? Just a thought

Sorry, didn't realise you'd already tried the cosmetic route.

Think you'll find it virtually impossible to obtain that material other than by purchasing a new cover sadly. You could try a breakers yard, but they are normally very reluctant to just sell you one seat...they'll want you to buy all of them..expensive and not really an option.

The only other POSSIBLE solution, would be to ask your dealer if they've got a 'returned under warranty claim' cover that they could let you have.

Ross may be able to put a defo yes or no to that one, but my guess would be probably no, as I think warranty stuff has to be returned to wherever the new parts come from.

How about using this an opportunity to go for full leather? Not a full retrim as it's half leather already isn't it? Check out your local car trimmers for a price.

I did ask if the burn was near a seam...within 1/2 inch say. If so, that would probably make the cover savalgable

Sorry I can't be of any more help. Get your 'friend' to cough up if possible though.

Anyone on here getting a fraid RS front seat repaired which might yield a piece of spare material?

Need both of my front seats repaired due to fraying.presume it is quite a common problem.is there a simple solution if not does anyone have any idea of cost of trim in leather and any recommended trimmers?

If it is still under warranty, lozgti, try the warranty route through your dealer :D

over three years old i'm afraid.car loosened up nicely with 46k on the clock :) just need to tidy the interior.(ie seats)shame because everything else is great.dont think the last owner was as car proud as me!
