cluster compatibility

Featured Replies

Just wondering how to know which instrument cluster would be the right one for my car if i go hunting scrap yards. Would all TDis of the same vintage use the same cluster or would an SLX be different to a GLX? Or could i look at a newer car? would a TDI from 04 use the same cluster? I guess, if only because of the rev counter, a Petrol cluster is not going to work quite right when fitted to a diesel car.

And does anyone know what the part code number is for a 99 GLX instrument Cluster?

Ideally you need to take out your instrument cluster and read the part number off the back of it to be sure that you get the same replacement cluster.

I replaced the cluster on mine recently and used a 1999, 1.6L petrol cluster in my1999, 2.0L petrol car. Initially the cluster read incorrectly because the gear ratios are different on the 1.6 so it was reading too slow, but I got around it by using VagTacho to copy the data from the 2.0 cluster and writing the data to the 1.6 cluster which sorted out the speedo. The only thing that doesnt work on the 1.6L cluster is the check engine light, but I'm not too fussed about that cos I think I'll know if something is up with the engine!!

Once you've got the replacement cluster, you'll need to use VagTacho to sort out the immobiliser and pair the keys with the new cluster...
