Servicing advice

Featured Replies

Servicing light popped up on the car yesterday. Not good timing.

Car has done 36k (ish) miles, I had it switched from variable to fixed at the last service hence the odd number (but I need to check the paperwork just in case they've put in annual oil and left the damn thing on variable).

4yr/40k the car is due a timing belt. Something expensive I'd rather delay a bit if I can. Can I have a basic annual service and they have the belt done later? 3000 miles will take me 3-4 months to do when I can save up for it.

Or is it a bit of waste of time to do it piecemeal.

Have a look on JKM's website, it gives a good idea of what is due / done and at what intervals and on which regime although better prices can sometimes be got elsewhere.

It's 4 year and 60 or 80k for the cambelt (depending on engine) certainly not 4 years 40k.

I got a good deal on a service while they were doing the belt anyway, but it's something you'd have to negotiate.

Oh right.

I thought 4yr/40k seemed very low.

If that's the case I'd just get it serviced and the cam belt would be due next July.which give a bit longer to save.

4 Years and 40K, my cambelt would deffinately have been changed!!. Think you should have a look at an engine thats had a cambelt break, you are good for a 3 grand plus repair. I get my belt changed with genuine VAG parts all for the sum of £80 and get peace of mind.

Car isn't much over 3yr old so the belt will get done on it's 4th birthday.
