Anyone Lowered a Mk2 Octy Classic or Ambiente?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, i can remember of at least one member on here lowering there car on Eibach Pro Kit (30mm) cant remember who exactly though.

Just after some advice, as i've had the car geo'd twice now and tracked between fitting of new tyres. And it still wears the insides off of both tyres.

Now i can imagine it being a camber issue, but not the degree of burning the insides off in 8k!

Can anyone else comment if there experiencing the same trend of excessive wear?

My car has been on eibachs since 130k and recently clicked over to 152k, the rear shocks were replaced a while since and noticed that they were shot only after experiencing a knocking noise which turned out wasn't the shocks.

But the rear of the car promptly stood back up when fitting standard bilstein shocks to it and stopped catching arches, im now wondering if the front shocks are sagging and causing the front to settle down and cause excessive camber.

As i've just bought some front bilstein struts and some SFK top mounts, the bottom arms got replaced a while ago so i wouldn't say its related to them.

I'm experiencing a thumping/knocking if im going straigh over a sharp bump/ridge or a slight sideways motion lurch whilst going around a bend whilst hitting any ridges in englands cack roads)

The car still rides as though it did when i first had the Eibach's put on, it doesn't bounce uncontrollably neither does it do anything unexpected apart from the thumping and slight sideways lurch whilst hitting a ridge/uneveness on a corner.

Front rollbar bushes can only be bought with a new roll bar from skoda :o which is stupid when you can buy them for the rear (already replaced) but these look pretty firm still.

You're not hitting the bump stops are you?

I wouldn't say so matey, i put fresh ones in. Which were cut down when the springs went it. And its only on sharp bumps that it makes a noise.

I think something has worn, as when it hits the sharp ridge/bump it goes with a right bang up through the bulkhead on the drivers side.

Turning up a street surface at a angle, say into a petrol station forecourt at a angle it makes a clunking noise. Everything appears to be in good condition, it had new front drop links at christmas.

Its had a new inner and outer cv joint fitted earlier on in the year also on the drivers side, and that was a GFK part (supposeldy manufacturers quality) They wern't exactly cheap compared to the cheaper alternative.

So im imagining its something to do with the Shockers/Top Mounts, or at least i hope it is.

Hopefully i will get the parts put on tomorrow and i'll look about having it geo'd again. As for some reason it got the rears set at 1.8degrees, when factory spec is supposedly 1.2degrees?

I have the same car. 54 plate with 88k miles. It rides rough as hell. Looking at bilsteen shocks and apex springs. My mechanic had the car up the ramps and couldn't find a problem. Skoda specialists aswell. Drop links getting replaced on Friday. But I do experience the exact same problem as you however my suspension is standard.

Well the car was in for the timing belt and the shocks and top mounts being changed, the drop links on both sides had lasted a year. They were genuine parts too.

They didnt find out what the knocking was, but it never did it after the shocks/top mounts and drop links were changed.

It then failed its MOT on the Offside bottom ball joint, and as the MOT inspector said, it was in bad shape. Which when i changed it, looked really bad.

Once removed you could lift the ball up and down in the cup by about 2mm, certainly was hangin. But the strange thing is that it only use to make a noise on full lock turning into a petrol station forecourt and the wheel having to change direction to go up hill caused it to pop.

The bottom arms/ball joints were replaced around 2 years ago too.

Problem being now, is that it makes as much noise as before with the pot holes catching you out.

Something critically needs doing around this way, as i think my wheels are going to be shaped like 50p's before long.
