Worn anti roll bar bushes, are they easy to fit

Featured Replies

I have had a knocking noise on the left hand side of the car and found out the other day after looking underneath that the antiroll bar bush is worn out, the bushes are cheap but how easy is it to change them.

Forgot to say its a 1.4mpi

Thanks.

Bushes don't normally cause knocking, are the links ok?

And are the collars still attached to the bar? They crack, come off and the bar shifts sideways and then knocks on the side of the console.

Failing that they can be changed in situ, bolts are fiddly to get to but a 1/4 drive rachet and 13mm socket should get in there, failing that might need to unbolt the gearbox end of the driveshaft.

Not sure what happened to my reply.

The collars are still intact but not in very good condition its more of a rattle when going over an uneven road (plenty round here) ,the links seem ok but the bush is almost worn through, i have the bushes so i might as well fit them.

So is it just a matter of getting under neath undoing the clamp an replacing the bush, seems too easy.

Yep that's it. Although it sounds like a new arb is in order.

Ok thanks for the advice ,i'll look at getting it replaced at some point.

Any idea of what cost i should be looking at?

It is easier to do than describe, 13mm ring spanner but the N/S is a bit of a pig to tighten up properly. The drop links appear OK even when worn. May be worth changing, or if noise on one side only, try swopping them over to see if it has any effect. 16mm nuts on originals but 17 on replacements.

The collars were in a really bad state the bar was wedged against the drivers side so it had moved quite a bit , had the bar replaced and all is well again and knocking as gone, cost me £120 .

Good diagnosis then ;)

Glad its sorted even if it set you back a bit more than expected.
